sorry guys, been a while since ive updated this thread...Whole load of dramas which i'd rather not get into...
In summary, the engine had to undergo a rebuild and after thousands of wasted $$$, the car is once again back on track. Car will be sent to Scott at Insight in 1-2 weeks.

Hey guys! Sorry its been a while since ive posted on this thread.
So after a year long build, an engine rebuild, change of cams, cooling issues, 3 different tuners the car is finally complete! Well almost...
The car eventually ended up at Bel Garage and the guys there have been excellent in ironing out all the little bugs to make it just in the nick of time for our track day two weeks ago. The engine had a safe tune for the track day since it is the first time it is hitting actual tarmac. At 4psi it managed to squeeze 186KWATW on a rich tune. The engine responds better and power figures kept creeping up on a much leaner tune, but better to be safe than sorry....Attached FilesLast edited by ish_crx; 08-09-11, 12:09 AM.

So the car was towed down on a Sunday the day before our Track day on Monday as 20 of us stayed the night at the Wakefield cabins. Had a great time drinking beers, barbecue and talking smack with like minded awesome guys. Woke up bright and early and ea ger to get started, but luck has we experienced a light drizzle early in the morning which made the track unbearable slippery. With slick tyres it was impossible to get any traction so waited until the sun came out and the 4WD GTR's and EVO's dry up the track! =)
As the temperature got hotter and the track slowly dried up, I decided to take the car out finally for a test run for the first time in its life. Lined the car up in anticipation for the marshalls signal. Thumbs up came and the car was finally on the track, after a year of wait it was nerveracking not knowing what to expect. I conservatively brought the car up to I would say 40% acceleration to get a feel for the car and noticed immediately that the suspension was set on rock hard and the back end felt really skatey. This became evident on the hairpin, even at a very conservative speed level the rear just spins out. After two warm up laps and 3 spin outs later I decided to pull in and adjust the damper to softer settings. I had to do this 3 times until the rear was wound up all the way to soft and I started to notice a bit of difference.
With the settings on the rear all the way to soft and the front on half, the car feels a little bit better so i decided to do more laps and get some heat on the tyres for more grip. After 8 conservative laps of twitches here and there, the handling was not getting any better. One would thought that as the tyres get warmer the grippier it got, but this was not the case. I decided to pull in and find out what was going on. Felt the front tyres and they were mildly warm and the rear was cold. How could this be? Came to the realisation that the semi's are just shot. They have undergone too many heat cycles! Note to self, never buy second hand semi slicks again.
So in a nutshell, the cars first appearance hasnt been entirely successful but was totally expected. You build a car for the track there will always be issues and ongoing changes and improvements to be made....

Forgot to mention that I persevered with the cooked semi's and rock hard suspension and after a couple more spectacular spins, one of the erl fittings started to leak so took the car off the track. Overall pretty pleased with the engine set up, plenty of power on tap and very responsive. Now that we know the engine is healthy, no knocks and IAT not rising under track conditions, final tune whould produce close to 200KW (i hope) with a proper leaner tune. I have a 10psi pulley as well but I dont think it is necessary as there is plenty of power and torque already.
Other changes to go in the next week are:
- Rear Mugen spoiler to help with the rear traction problem
- Softer springs
Then back to the track for more testing and fun!
