Unfortunately I did not get out to Winton on the weekend forecast said rain and storms so chose not to go, from what a few friends said the weather wasn't too bad and they got a few dry sessions in. Annoyed that I didn't go, and now that's the 3rd track day I've missed. Another Fun Day coming up on Sunday but again the forecast says rain so will have to wait it out. Really wanted to get in at least 2 track days before Honda Nationals in July but looks like I'll be lucky to get 1 at this rate.
Now onto the fun stuff. I tried to get rid of the 225/50/16 Hankook RS3's but I found them very difficult to sell, getting almost no offers for them (I think because of the chunky sidewall). Someone did offer a swap for a 215/45 AD08R which I was happy to do, when I met up with the bloke it was actually a 225 tyres didn't have much meat left probably around 50% but I decided to swap anyway because I thought these would be easier to sell and it would be nice to compare the side walls.
Went back to the tyre shop where I got my wheel alignment and as I suspected my camber was incorrect, I asked for -3 degrees last time and one side was -2.5 and one was -3. Was quite annoyed as it's someone I've gone too for a few years and have recommend many people to his shop before. Thankfully he rectified his mistake. I decided to mount the AD08R to simply compare and see if I could run this tyre.
Went home popped the TE37s on and instantly saw the difference. That extra -0.5 degrees of camber made a big change. The 45 vs 50 sidewall also made a big difference as the sidewalls no longer look so thick and bulgy.
225/50/16 - before
225/45/16 - now
This much poke I was happy to live with and surprised how easy the 225 fit now. I decided to lower the whole car about 2 inches. This dialled in some natural camber the wheels were now inside the guards.
Final result
I really suck at taking nice photos of my car...
Honestly it looks better in real life than it does in photos but I'm pretty happy with it now. I'll most likely drop the rear another 10mm or so. Could of easily run a 215 or 225 on the rear, maybe next set of tyres. Took it for a drive around the block and it's not scrubbing yet, I suspect the fronts will, so I'll most likely raise it about 5-10mm. I've maxed out the damper to help out but will see what happens. Definitely needs another wheel alignment though so will get one sorted after I've adjusted the heights again.
That's all for now, still have many bits and pieces lying around the garage that I want to install but just haven't got the time, haven't even washed it yes since getting it back from DT Panels. Hoping the weather is clear for Sunday do I can head up to Winton.
Nice pickup man!! I also own a k24 dc2r haha, what's your opinion on the nulon gearshift oil?
Nice dude! It does the job I guess, I didn't really notice a difference. It was changed by the previous owner not too long ago anyway so it was fairly new oil, I only changed it for peace of mind.
Long time no update, haven't done anything major to the car recently just a few small things.
Back to the 15th of May. So I got accepted via Shortlist to the EXE track day at Winton on very short notice (less than a week). The car didn't need much to get ready except for a wheel alignment and to put in a fire extinguisher. The couple of days leading up to the event I was feeling extremely nervous that something would go wrong, maybe it was because this would be the first time I'd be driving to Winton alone or because it's the first time for the DC2R, I wasn't sure. I flirted with the idea of dropping out just to be safe but I chose to stick it out and go.
So 6am Saturday morning time to leave, as I reversed out of my garage I noticed a small puddle of fluid on the floor....on closer inspection it was actually fuel. Leaking fuel obviously never a good sign, at 6am in the morning I was in no state of mind to fix the issue and then go and track the car. Far too dangerous too risk, I took it as a sign that it just wasn't meant to be and back to bed I went. After inspecting, I found the leak was from the fuel return where the braided hose was beginning to tether at the connection.
I then noticed the small clamp was loose, so I decided to tighten in and see if the problem occurred again....2 months later and I've yet to see the leak again.
Recently I've installed a physical fan switch to manually control the cooling fans.
I had a suspicion that my cooling fans didn't work, every time I would come back for a drive or leave the car running for a while the fans never actually turned on but the temperature gauge would never go past its normal point. I tested the fans applying straight power and they worked fine, tested all the relays etc. seemed like the thermo switch needed to be changed. I then instead chose to simply install a switch which I could control the fans. This was actually cheaper to do and having some control over cooling gave me some peace of mind.
I've always hated the look of the rear wiper and it never really cleaned the window more just smeared the rain so I decided to get rid of it and plug it. Also painted the bolts holding the 3rd brake light which became rusted after 16 years. Prefer the clean look of the rear hatch now.
Picked up an OEM rear strut brace for cheap which came with the plastics also; gives it a cleaner look. The rear strut brace on the FN2 made a big difference so keen to see how it will effect the handling on the Integra, I don't think it will make as much of a difference (fn2 having wierd rear suspension setup) but it should have some effect.
I've swapped out one of the SR3 recaros to an SR4, SR3 are just too small for me. I began to have back pains on long drives and I really felt squashed. The SR4 is a lot wider and feels better for me. In the long run I do hope to either have 2 SR4, or a pair of SR7 Recaros.
Made a few other purchases recently also, got myself a genuine J's Racing 1500mm wing with 275mm wing stands. Wanted to test the car with and without aero, but dc2 wings don't come up for sale often and with the few track days I do go out to, I want to use this as much as possible.
Also picked up a AP2 cluster with 9x xxx KMS. Came with the wiring to plug n play into a VTI-R, so some of the wiring will need to be changed to fit the type R. Was waiting to find an s2000 cluster with similar kms to what's on the K24 so to get an AP2 cluster and one with kms to match was an added bonus. Can't wait to install it!
Finally, my good friend Paul decided to shoot my car! Here's a few of the photos. Enjoy!
Finally got the wing on in preparation for H nats on Sunday, had to drill holes on each side. The stock wing covers 3/4 holes per side which is convenient.
Picked up this cool shift knob from Yonas @ JDMyard. It's a custom Duracon knob from the USA. Not the best looking knob on the market but it's extremely light and feels amazing!
Spent the day prepping the car, changed fluids and just did a general check up which brought up no surprises. I've been told that my car does not blow any smoke at all when on WOT so it was nice to see that I didn't burn any oil when I did the oil change. Everything is good to go, bring on Winton!
I finally had a chance to get out to Winton and had an absolute blast. I'm still relatively new to track having been only twice before in the fn2 which were both fun days (30-40 cars in one session compared to 12 on a timed day) which meant minimal free laps and one of which was raining. Both when my car still had a stance set up going with wide wheels, stretched tyres and stupid alignment.
Conditions weren't great with a cloudy day, damp track and many sessions being cut short due to people coming off the track or having mechanical issues.
My biggest concern was with my car overheating, I drove the DC2R up without fault and it ran cool all day, burnt no oil whatsoever and drove without issues, this was a massive win for me in itself. From the 5 sessions I completed the times were;
Session 2 - completed 2 warm up laps then the session was brought in due to a mechanical fault of another car, went back out again to complete another warm up lap and another driver came off the track...cancelled session
Session 3 - 1.50.7 (RaceChrono) 1.50.2 (Natsoft) This session gave me a lot of confidence and my goal was to break into the 1.4xxx mark so I was so very close.
Session 4 - N/A another cancelled session, went out for 2 warm ups and another proper lap then the session was called off due to someone coming off the track.
I was so damn happy with the PB of 1.45 for my first proper track day at Winton. Couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I took Huy (jdm.itr) out with me and he gave me tips the whole session (even grabbing the steering wheel at one point HAHA). The car and myself definitely have so much more in it and I can't wait to get out there and keep improving. After session 3; me being the idiot I am, got confused between hot and cold tyre pressures, as I came off they were sitting at 32/33 hot and I dropped them to 28 hot. At the time I thought this was correct before my friend pointed out that I was wrong, couldn't find a compressor to inflate the tyres so I just left it to see how it affected the car and it made a difference, the car was now under steering where it usually wouldn't and I was struggling for most of the track. I still managed to PB by a huge margin but it shows there is a lot of time to gain. The brakes were perfect all day and showed no signs of fade so there's more improvement there also.
For next track day I would like to get the S2000 cluster installed because I struggled without a digital speedo and also perhaps to get some gauges to help monitor temps.
Overall I think I had a successful day, achieving a time I didn't think would be possible on my first attempt and with the car not really setup properly. Thanks to everyone involved for organising and participating!
