Update
Hi Guys, a few of you have seen some of the cars progress on Facebook but for those that haven't here's whats been happening...
Since the car has been just sitting inside the garage getting worked on it's collected a lot of dust so once I got it as far as i need for now i decided to take it out and give it a good clean inside and out
The painting of the roll cage is complete and the new Sparco racing seat has been installed
Installed Hybrid Racing shifter bushings, Project Mu wheels nuts, aluminum hub rings as the old plastic ones had melted on the front wheels and the rears had both cracked lol the Oil cooler and oil pressure, temp sensors for the GPX Pro lap timer along with the RPM signal. Having a bit of trouble getting them running though, the RPM signal must be wrong somewhere as it's not reading so need to fix that. I used this diagram to hook it up, Benny from BYP verified it was the correct pin out so i must have stuffed up somewhere. Am yet to calibrate the temp and pressure sensors yet so hopefully they run ok.
Here's the oil cooler
Finished off the new splitter ages ago but haven't had a chance to properly test fit it and get some nice pics of the front end. Decided to give it some extra support with two brackets coming off the bottom of the radiator support and one on either side of the car using the bolt that mounts the fenders to the chassis. Also put in some spacers underneath the main brackets so it sit a lot lower to the ground
Also finished carbon wrapping the sunroof delete and sealed it with silicone around the edges, it's come up really well. Don't have any pics of that yet though
The one part I've been really looking forward to installing arrived last week. Massive thanks to Benny from BYP for supplying it in awesome condition, at a great price and also for getting a custom box made to send it in, much appreciated Benny, love your work!!!
Its a J's racing carbon fibre bonnet! It was once used on a certain J's racing time attack car. Really happy with how it looks, very aggressive! Also its the "dry" carbon version so it's light as F**K!!! LOL here's a couple of snaps, reckon the car kinda looks like a shark now!
The car is almost ready for Honda Nationals now. Just need to finish off a couple of things. Tried for a couple of hours the other day to remove the front lower ball joints but even with the correct tool i just couldn't do it. The plan was to remove the lower control arms and take them to a workshop to have the new PCI bushings and roll centre adjusters installed. But since i cant get it off i've decided to trailer the car to a workshop i trust and get them to do it. Since my motivation to keep installing parts is starting to fall away after many long nights over the past few weeks (just want to drive it now! lol) I also decided to have the workshop install the new brake pads too, getting sick of pulling the front end of the car apart. Was going to take it to this particular workshop to get an alignment anyway (they have more experience with race cars than anyone else in bendigo, the guy that owns it used to be a mechanic for a world rally team i'm told) so it seemed like a smart idea to get them to do everything at once. Plus it's less work i have to do after a day at work
Once it gets back all that needs to be done is to install the new radiator, new hoses, thermostat, fan switch and water temp sensor and the car will be ready to rock and roll!!!! Tempted to get a new harness and passenger seat rail to fit the old seat in the passenger side so people can ride shot gun with me, kind of reluctant to do it though as i want to keep getting faster, and passengers will weigh the car down!!! Such a sociable person!!! LOL Will be taking it over to Winton the Friday before (test and tune) for a run in/shake down of the new parts and also to hopefully deal with any problems that may arise before Honda Nationals. The main thing i'm worried about is oil leaks from the sandwich plate/oil cooler etc. but hopefully it's all sealed well and stays dry! fingers crossed
Will have one more update before the big day in a couple of weeks
Cheers
Ryan
