I saw Kelv's pics and they look hot! Will you be running a bit of camber?
Sorry man, I didn't see this.

Car is running 1.5 degree at the front already, rear is still at 0. Don't think I need to run anymore as the current tyres are pretty well worn on the inside...

Haha, a bit too late now Mine is probably due for a respray soon anyways so I'm not as precious with it as I should be.

Time to try the ChargeR tyre-flip-trick?

My question was relating to, if Kelv added more camber to his wheels, they wont sit as flush anymore. But if you don't decide to run more camber then who cares.

              Bigger is better

On the 30/11/2008, a couple of us Melbourne folk attended a track day organised by the Honda Sports Car Club of Victoria. Having only 31 entrants, the day provided plenty of track time and plentiful spacing which lacks from some of the other track days that I've attended. The weather was a constant warm and we couldn't have asked for anything better.

The car setup remained the same with the exception of the rim and tyre setup. With the belief that bigger is better (as in bigger tyres = more grip = better lap times), I changed my setup from:
              [17x8.5 235/45/17 Direzza Z1 + 17x7.5 215/45/17] to [17x9.5 255/45/17 AD07 + 17x8.5 235/45/17 AD07]

Despite the tyres used being a different brand/make, I consider the AD07s to be equivalent to the Z1's that I previously ran as the tests between these two tyres usually yield very similar results - some saying the Z1's are better, others saying the AD07's are better.

              Results

These were my lap times for the day:

              Morning session:
              2:05.8600 9:19.3400 1:50.4400 1:48.3400 1:45.4100 1:44.2300 1:43.9200 1:57.9400 1:46.3700 1:42.8000 1:54.0100 1:42.0300 2:11.7900

              Afternoon session:
              1:55.4400 1:44.8100 1:43.5200 1:42.9600 1:42.8300 1:42.3600 1:43.5500 1:44.1100 2:08.9200 6:31.2000 1:42.3800 1:42.3400 1:47.7800 1:41.7800 2:15.4300 1:42.6500 1:42.1900 1:42.5500

From the get-go, it was clear that the extra tyre width provided much better cornering speed around the whole track as the revs were noticeably higher around the whole track and I found myself hitting the limiter where previously I wouldn't. The straight line acceleration and braking different was negligible with the extra weight of the rims and extra camber. I found that I could brake as late and hit the throttle as late/early as I could previously. After looking at the tyres and their wear, it seems that the fronts have worn quite evenly with the -4.8'ish degrees of camber. I'm quite pleased at this.
The staggered setup proved to be interesting as there was now a lot more oversteer present when pushing to the limits. I found myself caught up in half-drifts when not being cautious and need to learn how to use the oversteer to my advantage. I'll be taking up some lessons from the ChargeR school of front-wheel-drive dorifto as he seems to be quite a master of this on his Bridgestone slicks.

With a previous best was 1.42.5 on the old setup, I managed to better this by 0.72 seconds with a 1.41.78 in the second session. I know with a good lap, the car is capable of at least a low 1.41.

Special thanks goes out to ChargeR for the setup advice and Chi who helped organise the AD07s for me.

                        Thanks guys!

The car didn't struggle to accelerate with the tyres - well, not to anything that made it extremely noticeable to me. Pulling out of corners was the same as before and I'm sure I had a slightly higher top speed coming down the main straight than with the previous setup due to better exit corner speed.

I've got a datalog at home somewhere that I haven't looked at. I'll try and troll through that for some data later on tonight but unfortunately it doesn't capture the lap with the PB.

Great lap time and congrats with new pb.......soon you and tom will catch me.......its about time for me to think of some upgrades to keep you guys away from me....lol.....from my observation behind you, ur cornering speed and turn in is certainly a lot faster then before. especially my tyres struggle to find any grip when they are so worn......

Thanks mugenbox You're currently driving the pants off your car with a somewhat questionable setup, so I'll be keen to see what happens when you take on more of our advice into your setup.

You'll have to watch out for my next mod onto semi's. :P I'm confident that I'd be able to knock off more than the 1.7 seconds that I'm currently trailing you by, but don't think this will be happening anytime soon...

                            Economy Updates

At the moment when daily driving the DC5R in the city + very little freeway driving, I get fuel ecconomy of around 8L/100kms with very little spirited driving.

I'm confident that the DC5R could do 7.5L/100kms with better fuel saving techniques but aircon is a must on Melbourne's weather at the moment. Boo to 44degree days.
