hmmm I drive both a GTi and Type-R, pretty much agree with what m0nty and philip lee are saying. Here's hoping the next type-r is a revvy petrol turbo and not a small capacity hybrid, lugging all those batteries with small capacity engine just doesn't sound fun at all. Something that can take the fight to the R26R and Focus RS. The GTi is just too perfect of an allrounder, I'd say Honda will have more luck providing an alternative rather than a head on competition.

Hmmm... off topic ?
If the CTR we're talking about is the British made version then I say good riddance. I like the great looks and forward thinking design, but I believe Honda went against its own philosophy when they loaded the CTR with oh-so many kilos and prehistoric rear suspension articulation.
Does this mean that now the ONLY current performance Honda have is the Civic Sedan R in JDM land?
In Honda models in general and with the benefit of hindsight I could say that my old DC5R was nothing compared to a DC2R in terms of feel and experience. Sure, blame the AUDM downgraded spec but when I look at the fundamentals, i.e; Honda Stream floor-plan and FWD mac-struts I really think that the beancounters are now in full control of the boardroom. It all started going downhill once Soichiro gave up the ghost.
For the last 5 years I've heard nothing interesting from Honda's R&D and its current auto lineup shows: Stillborn NSX replacement a couple of years ago, 10 years of NO-Evolution of the S2k, Going backwards in technology for the Civic & Integra R generations, merging Prelude & Integra (when Prelude was the supreme coupe for Honda's technology)...
I still love Honda... I just won't buy a new one because there just isn't anything interesting nor competitive anymore. If I ever buy one again, I'll look through the classifieds for the 1990s B-powered Hondas. They were (and still are) the best.

But there's the CR-Z.....

Yep.
Even Toyota build more exciting cars than Honda now. Now that the FT86 is delayed I am so in for that puppy. RWD 1,100kg VVTL-i 1.6 with 9,000rpm limit and 50/50 distribution. This could be a new cult car. Please don't waine from the goal Toyota.
