Mugen ECU's have Rev cuts?? My understanding was that they didn't...
my mugen n1 ecu (dc2r) rev limit is 9100rpm instead of 8600rpm stock.
i have hit the rev limmiter both with stock ecu and mugen ecu and the quoted rpms are accurate.
confirmed also with checking my spoon brochure, their ecu data states the following for dc2 integra type-r:
stock rev.limit: 8600rpm
stock v-tec point: 5520-5760rpm (i assume this varies depending on throttle position etc)
..my understanding is that the only way to over-rev the engine is to down-change at high speed/rpm, at which point the rev limmiter will not be able to contain the over-revving engine, with engine and drivetrain dammage possible (probable?) as a result.

exactly - it could be called a 'mechanical' over-rev,
HOWEVER, it is possible to damage a car by sitting AT the limiter...
there is a very big difference between "hitting" the limiter and "sitting" on the limiter to an engines life...
i "hit" the limiter often, even in the Jazz... (timing it perfectly with your both foot and left hand is the key )

Once the service manager was sitting on the rev limiter for 30 sec.
And he said that i will not do any damage to the car if i do that.
He said that the car is designed to rev alot more then what they are suppose to(DC5R).
He did this to show me not to be scared of revving the car, since i was
driving it like a baby. THats why my car was pinging to the shit house
and so...taking it to redline will blow all the carbon out.
well, the usa DC5S K20A2 cut off is 8100... the audm R one is 8600 or something? (not exactly sure)
dunno what the K20Z one is either?
AUDM DC5R K20A ( 02-04) is @ 8100 rpm
AUDM DC5S K20Z ( 05-06) is @ 8600 rpm
JDM DC5R is 8900 RPM
Eddy / Airbox runs Mugen N1 ecu and street version I think, and he tracks here and there to 9100rpm without problems.

The car is designed to rev alot more than that with the right type of fuel. Correct.
However, having fuel cut off like that repeatedly is not the way to do it.
The smoke blowing out was a result of the car running lean.
That is not a good thing.
