    Rev to 9000rpm???

Ok i find this very weird so i thought i might get the opinion of some of you guys.

    I drive a 01 Integra Type R DC2.

I was giving my car a little stab just before and realised that it revved past its fuel cut which is usually 8600rpm.

Now i this is my second 01 DC2R and my first one always fuel cut at 8600rpm. Tonight with my new one i revved it all the way to 9000rpm and then it fuel cut!

I tried it twice in 1st gear slowly building up the RPM's and it happened both times.

I know for a fact that this is not normal.

I have come up to two conclusions.
    - The ECU is faulty
    - There is an aftermaket chip or ECU already installed (though the hard thing to believe about this is that a middle aged lady used to own it before me and she was the first and only owner.)

Does anyone else know why this might be happening because im bewildered.

Sure enough it is cool to rev to 9000rpm but im sure its not good for the engine or am i wrong?

    Please Discuss.

It's just your tacho as they are spring loaded. The fuel cut on my car is 7,900rpm but it can over rev according to the tacho if the needle moves faster. I'm sure someone else can explain it a little better.

Tachos aren't entirely accurate though. The only way to get a true representation of engine RPMs is to monitor via the ECU. If you had said the fuel cut was 8000rpm and the tacho went to 9000rpm there may be something, but we're talking 400rpm here. Tacho inaccuracy can be held entirely accountable.

Ok let us assume the tacho is off.
What can i do to fix it?

also does that mean that the tacho will be 400rpm off everywhere in the range...even at idle?

get a rsm or something that splices right into the ecu?

is there nothing that you can do to correct the orginal tacho?

even my dc2r showed with vafc on rev setting that it was out around 200rpm............nothin to stress about.................
just shift once you see the tacho pass 8000rpm...............

Yup, my vafc shows revs that are lower than my tacho too. I also drive a 2001 dc2r

                        1. remove the gauge cluster

                        2. remove the plastic cover off the front

                        3. using your index finger, gently push the RPM needle anti-clockwise as far as you want

                        4. original tacho is "corrected"

                          haha...

                          I have a 9000rpm stock DC2R too...

But yeah, just an optimistic tacho.

its still possible the previous owners was full of sh!t and it was infact owned by her son or younger brother or something and its got a mugen ecu

checking the ecu should clarify this right?

                              Tachos are not accurate.
