Ah good to see you're safe and the car too.

    Exciting times ahead.

Today was a very productive day.
Took the cams outs a few days ago and found this.
Roller bearings were destroyed on the exhaust side.
No wonder I only had compression from one cylinder.

Glad I'm on holidays as I got the radiator out, intake manifold off, aircon out, battery out, cams out and rockers out.
Had some friends come over and and got the motor out.

Didn't take that long. Pretty easy to do with a few hands.
Oh and the use of an engine crane made it a lot better then dropping the subframe.

So we wanted to see the damage to the head.
      No surprise here!

      Bent valves anyone

Got some cleaning up to do now

Will be getting some parts for the K24 soon

Nice progress mate! Was sad to hear of the old A3 expiring, the little motor that could. From my experiences with MR K24A3 DC5s I think you'll like it .

            Thanks guys.
Looking back at the A3 build, all things were bolt ons an re-usable.
Motor had 225,000kms on the clock and had provided 110kw atw, saw 2 hillclimbs, 3 trackdays and hours of fun.
I never would of thought 4 years ago that I would have done so much with the car and now be doing an engine swap.

I remember that day when I first met you at one of the CITR Annual BBQs and how excited you were about the plans for the car. Keep it up Timmy

Nice to see you getting on with K24!
It's always a bummer when you blow an engine so far away from home, but like you said, that's racing

                  Good luck with the build!

Hey Timmy! Quick question, what headers you gonna be going for with the k24? Clearance can be bummer I heard.

                      Tim, question for you.

When you had the JDM headers... did u have the 4-2 and 2-1 pieces installed... at that time, what sway bar were you using?

                        Cheers Tinks.
Yeah fairly easy ATM. No real issues apart from snapping a strap.
Hope it's this easy putting it in.

I hope I won't have any issues. Looks pretty smooth sailing at this present time.

                        Spoon N1 headers.
They should fit but might have to instal another flex pipe or drop the hangers.

Yeah was using JDM 4-2-1 and EP3 sway bar.

                          Spent 4.5hours cleaning today.
                          Yay for holidays.

Started out by pushing it out of the garage
Still had half the mud from Wakefield through the wheel arches and engine bay.

The garage was a mess. Had shit everywhere.

The amount of dirt, grease, mud, rocks and oil.

                          Nice and clean.
All bolts are labeled, all reusable bolts ons are cleaned and in boxes.

K24 should be a nice upgrade, make sure you document the entire process bro =)
                              Best of luck!
