Man, had a proper look, and what do you know, a split hose, so boost pressure was being lost! Sux because Im sur I caould have got really good times, as im pretty confident i was getting 16's with about .5bar boost in the warm up laps, but when it came down to the proper timed sessions, I was down to .2bar (Usually runs .9-1 bar)

Felix, glad to hear your alright, i think its time to raise the car a little.

what gives? how come so many of you guys had so many problems? how hot was it? did the temp overheat your brains and you were all driving like nut jobs? or is wakey just that sort of track? or lots of noobies at this one being too overenthusiastic?

      ??

well, it was warmish - but not hot,

i was running my car in class A and in class C - so that is kinda why i had cooling problems...

but there was a lot of off track action - dust clouds every 3-5 minutes...

i see.. once one guy goes off and puts dust and crap on the track more will surely soon follow

i have: ITR brakes, ITR headers, ITR intake, ITR cams, ITR valve springs
soon to have: ITR LSD, ITR 2nd gear, ITR final drive
I probably should have just bought an ITR!

yes you should have you wally!

Left my car at Wakefield. Went back today to try and fix it. But the damage is worse than i thought. didnt bring enough parts. so had it taken back on a tilt tray.

Autosalon Street Car of the year was on today at wakefield. There was a lotus elise with a K series motor but not made by rover.

That sux, so the hub is all bent out of shape too huh? It's a real shame that I parted with the front + rear ITR hubs less than a month ago
Good luck finding parts, hondbits might have some in stock but they will charge a pretty penny no doubt.

Must've been one hell of a hit to do so much damage, I hope you're back up and running in as little time and at the least cost possible.

Apart from track knowledge/experience ... Most of it comes down to maintenance work. If you want to make sure nothing break or fails, prepare to invest a fair amount of dough in ensuring so.

People spend a great majority of their money/income into modifying what they feel is required but pay little attention to maintenance and care. Problem is, cars go quick and fun for a few laps but start to breakdown and shit itself after progressively more laps from something not working when it should ala brakes, tyres, oil, temperature management - blah blah blah.

Just have a quick ponder at why some cars can go all out from lap 1 to last lap session after session like clockwork. It sure isn't magic or miracle at work.

Alot of people also unfortunately put power/visual mods over cooling mods.
Things such as thermostats and uprated radiator will probably cost less than a set of fancy wheels.

its a bit OT but what is the benefit of a aftermarket thermostat?? surely they are all just "open" once the temps rise about like 80 degrees or so...

and why does the oem radiator cap only do 1.1 bar while the spoon/mugen go 1.3/1.35 ?? is it cos the radiator hosing cant take the higher pressure well??

                          Comment

The aftermarket thermostats allow the fans to be switched on earlier, ala at 80 degrees vs. factory at 93 degrees. Something like that, don't quote me on the temperatures, but the purpose of it is correct.

While the higher pressure radiator cap "is suppose" to raise the pressure, allowing for a higher temperature usage. I find it as a useless mod/change on a stock radiator.

A proper racing/uprated radiators using a 1.1 cap has no problems running all day long on the track. It certainly keeps the water and oil temperatures down more efficiently vs. a stock radiator and uprated rad-cap combo.

no one questions whether an aftermarket radiator works better than a stock one because of its larger size.. but does a stock radiator work appreciably better with a aftermarket cap?
