      That sound in your video sounds like problems with your bearings. Does it sound louder during start up and when the engine is cold? Downshifting to engine brake at close to the rev limiter might have damaged or just scored your bearings. I've heard of this happening when downshifting at high revs from 5th gear to 2nd gear (mis-shift) and the rattling sound from the engine will happen.

      If it's the bearings that's damaged, then the bearings can be replaced from going under the engine by removing the oil sump etc and fixing it from there and will be a bit cheaper than to rebuild the engine. If you want to just keep on driving til the engine blows, or wait til later for a rebuild with more mods, than one way to reduce the noise is to put in thicker oil.

      Is it blowing blue smoke out the exhaust when driving at highish revs?

        Ok -- Didnt notice last night, but yes, there is a lock nut missing from Cylinder 3 intake valve & I cant find it anywhere in the head, must of gone down an oil passage??? I'll check the sump I guess..

        Any how the rocker was completely free to move around so would've caused an absolute racket... Will buy a lock nut tomorrow and fit to see if gets rid of the noise.

        Also adjusting all the valve clearances, some were way out too..

        I have decided its time to buy / build a b20 Engine and use my current head. The engine is drinking about 1L / 2500km and more if synthetic... Up to 1L / 1300km.

        Someone said I should re-use my crank in the b20 rather than a b20 crank -- is there somewhere i can start reading and does anyone know of short blocks for sale?

          Apparition -- nothing TOO bad, but a puff I suppose at 7500+rpm

          If there is still a noise after this i will check the bottom end.

            Was hitting limiter in second coming onto straight at qr, experimented to see if a few hundred rpm was enough to stretch the gear... Stock springs should be good for it.

                There is a reason why Honda set their rev limit to certain RPM.

                  Yes -- So it lasts 150,000kms and can be guaranteed.. Doesn't mean ITR head can't handle slightly higher rev limit than stock.. Of course, nothing is for free, and yes, the wear is likely exponential as rpm increase.

                  As said though -- Other than increased ring wear I can't detect any other damage at this stage from 'over-revving' the engine by a couple of hundred rpm.

                  Now -- I can't find one of these 7x.75 nuts ANYWHERE. None in Australia according to Honda and no-one else (including nut / bolt / fastener specialists) can get one, looks like a honda special part.

                  Anyone know where i can order one? Even Honda weren't too sure and said could take weeks to order in.

                  Oh well -- time to take the sump off and scavenge the bloody nut it looks, was hoping to keep it in there for a bit longer lol...

                    Is THIS the thing you are after? OEMacuraparts are generally fairly quick, and I am sure there are some other parts you need for your car that you could order at the same time. If Honda don't have it in stock in Australia I guess you are up for a 2 week wait anyway so you may as well get it cheaper.

                      Booya -- Found a mechanic that had a busted b series engine and gave me the nut. Put it all back together and with the ajusted clearances she idles like a dream..

                      Since I put the flywheel / clutch in, the car cranks slower (i also have a flat batter, jump starting to crank over lol .. but from running engine). So will monitor but can't see any drag or damage or otherwise... So seems ok.

                      Brake lines will arrive in a few days so then I can actually go an stretch her legs.. It did feel sluggish leading up to the problem, so will be interested to feel how it goes with correct clearances...

                            Going by the Honda service manual,
                            Valve Clearance to be checked every 40,000km
                            I’ve noticed my car is consuming a bit of Fuel now, Witch could be a result of Valve Clearance?
                            Thinking of doing this one myself…..Considering I broke 1 of the bolt the other day so now need to replace it

                                Tried to reply heaps of times and lost it lol.. Ok

                                Found the nut finally ... worked its way through the oil return.

                                Engine is now running like a dream again -- valve lash adjustment to AAGGESS without the proper tools, trial and error until accurate to .001"

                                Inspected bearings -- They are in good condition, no pitting etc ..

                                So engine is healthy as -- I will be selling it soon so... If anyone is interested. Will keep it in car until sold. May part the short block from head if worthwhile but unlikely.
