Rev to 9000rpm???

its still possible the previous owners was full of sh!t and it was infact owned by her son or younger brother or something and its got a mugen ecu

this is an extremely common question...

my mate just bought a type R and he was driving it on some twistys with me for the first time, i said:

'you should rev it out a bit more'

he said:

'but i am going to 8600'

i said:

'let me drive'

i did: 2nd gear VTEC to hit the limiter once, i actually saw the needle swing past 9000rpm

he said:

'wow! holy shit man, this thing is really incredible!!! i didnt know it had more to go!!!'

i said:

'yeah man, you drive these cars by feeling and hearing them, not by watching the tacho...'

Spot on Dave. Fuel cuts are there for a reason. Too many people think the car will blow up if you hit the fuel cut.

Not exactly blow up but I thought it's not gonna b good for my engine..

the original poster clearly says that he knows this

he revved the car up slowly and it went up to 9000... i think i too have done this in the past and it didnt rev to 9000.

i think i have heard that the 99 - 00 models did have this problem but i thought they rectified the problem with the 01 models.

^^^^above pretty much asked my question again where i explained i have revved it slowly and it still hit 9000rpm.

Though if it is an inaccurate tacho wouldnt that mean my vtec point would kick in later as well and even idle would be off.

I think atm my car is idling at about 800-900rpm i cant remember whether this was right or not?

so you didnt hit the rev limiter? then your engine was not spining at 9000rpm!!!!!

idle and VTEC and fuel cut are controled by the ECU, not the tacho...

take the passenger side footwell cover off and have a look

But, its a known fact that speedo's and tacho's are not accurate. if your THAT worried about it, get a Apexi RSM and put that infront of your tacho. Because as tinkerbell said, you drive the car by sound and fell, not the tacho.

its not so simply 45SET, the stock springs are not rated for 9000rpm.. you could get valve bounce at those revs.

but if the prev owner got a mugen cpu and mugen or toda high rpm valve springs then its all good

like i said guys im quite sure that the middle aged women before me didnt put a mugen or spoon ecu etc.
Considering she drove it on the highway most of the time travelling from brisbane to gold coast all the time and it shows because the log books show services concurrent from gold coast honda to brisbane honda.

But yeah thats pretty much the reason why im nervous cause i dont want something to fail and i end up with valve bounce.

btw anyone know what stock idle is set at on a 01 DC2R mine seems to idle at 900rpm

just check the ecu.. that's what controls the rev limit.

If its stock then you have a bad tacho
