    Takata Harness Eye Bolt Bracket

    Hey all,

I have had a bit of trouble installing my Takata Harness eye bolt in a suitable place for the centre console side lap belt (with the buckle). There are no places on the rail or on the OEM buckle bracket that places the belt far away enough from the seat harness hole so the metal slider doesnt hit it.

I spoke with Revolution Racegear about it and they said i have 2 options:

    1. Drill a stress plate into the floor (not 100% keen to drill a hole into my car)
    2. Make a bracket and fix it to the rear seat rail bolt next to the centre console

Just want to see if anyone knows the best shaped bracket to make up to do this?

MY only concern with this is the bracket spinning around if there is a significant force on the belt....

Heres a couple pics to show you guys where the eye bolt should be roughly.....

Let me know if you have any ideas

Can't you just replace the screw holding the seat belt buckle with the eye bolt? Or does it hit your centre console? Another suggestion is to bolt the harness straight to the buckle.

The buckle bracket is too close to the seat harness and not angled far back enough to conform with schroth recommendations.

If I bolt it there the silver slider will hit that hole causing slack, I have been told that slider must be outside the seat, is that correct ?

The way the belt looks on the photo is the "ideal " angle the belt should follow so it should mount about 80mm behind the seat rail bolt. Do you have a pic of how yours is mounted ?

Me too . Just for those playing at home if you mount the rear straps of a harness to the rear seat belt holes with the stock SR4 then the angle they form to horizontal is just within CAMS recommended 50° or whatever it is meant to be. Not ideal though, so I always make a habit of not crashing.

Matt of Tom if you could take a pic when you are able that would be great!

Tom from those 2 pictures if I was to make a bracket out of thick steel and bend the furthest end up so the eye bolt is in axial stress only do you think any bending in the bracket would be negligible??

              Want to do this right

Btw Tegiwa in the Uk sell a harness bar that will align the rear harness at a much safer 10-15 degrees

Sorry but you will have to rely on Matt for the picture, my car is remote from me at the moment. If that bracket needs to be 80mm from the rail mounting bolt to where you want your harness eyebolt then I think it will bend like tinfoil in a bad accident unless you use 10mm plate or something silly like that. That will give an instant 80mm of slack in the belts which isn't a great thing for your health. I would find another way.

Hmm 80mm was a guestimate it's probably a lot less I'll have to make a measurement. The guys in the US using sparco told me they are using such plates also. The rail passes right over the rear rail bolt also which makes life difficult.

                  Hmm drawing board.....

                  Comon Matt lol

Which one are you looking at? Here are the pics, I'll start with an old one that looks a lot better than what I just did. I can get some nicer ones tomorrow if you want.

What my seat looks like. (Probably seen this photo before)

And then what I just took. Apologies for how messy my car is, there's a reason for everything in my car I swear. I was going to clean it out when I put my rear seats back in, but with Gymkhana / DECA next month that probably won't happen.

Rear View - Eye bolts replace seatbelt bolts.

Right Bolt replaces seat belt bolt

Left bolt into seat belt buckle. Bride is a small version so it doesn't rub along my centre console. SR4 is quite tight but still makes it, just scratches it if you move heaps.

Oh great thanks for that!! So the silver slider on your belt doesnt get in the way of the seat at all when tensioned? My belt buckle bracket looks like it a bit further forward hence my problem.....

This is the bars i was talking about

Nothing seems to really get in the way? Then again I don't really adjust my seat especially when I've been using my harness so can't be 100%.
