It’s induced by down gearing too soon & the over rev is pushed beyond the limiter by the speed & gearing of the vehicle.
It’s not something any driver strives achieves but it is the single most common cause of rod bolt failure in circuit engines.

when i spoke to one of the teams racing a dc2R in the GT production category, they had the same thing happen to their engine. after lasting more than 2 full racing seasons which is amazing for a stock engine and shows the durability of the B18C, the driver (a.shepherd) over-revved it on a downchange (rev-limmiter cannot prevent this) which caused exactly the same thing..

nah, been flat out with work.

it also doesnt help when the performance industry is such a slow moving industry.

the time it takes for work to be performed would not be acceptable in any other industry.

So I pulled apart my tranny apart for shits and giggles and well, I didnt expect to find a broken final drive.

When the engine locked up, something had to give and it just happened to be a $1000 ATS final drive, YAY

                                Ouch.

ATS FD's are stupidly priced for B series =\

What are you doing now? This thread was a while back..

For my sake, wtf is the rod bolt - and the rod bolts function?
