what if he doesnt want to mess with the well tuned suspension that the typeR already comes with? what should he spend the 2k on then?

I was advised (by a tuner i know) not to touch the suspension unless i have a really good idea of what I'm doing.. so I'm going to stay away from suspension altogether.. I want coilovers but cannot justify the price tag when i cant even use the car's stock cornering performance to the full.. I would like to go to the track and grow my skills and then perhaps move onto a modded suspension package...
So i was thinking of getting:
1. Mugen Air Box
2. Full Exhaust
(nb. parts are going to be either 2nd hand or new at sale prices)
yay or nay? Does everyone agree with my principle about the suspension or am I going to be better off just going for the suspension?

but you STILL havent told us exactly what YOU want out of the car???
you say you want to "grow your skills" on the track?
well, in that case it is EASY:
brake pads & fluid & possibly braided lines ($400 to 750)
+
baffled oil sump ($50 to $250)
+
oil cooler kit ($400)
+
set of track rims & R compound tyres ($1250ish)
most of these ensure relaibility and consistency...
and as an outcome ensure enjoyment - but ONLY at the track... (i.e. limited return on investment)
engine mods wont make you faster around the track, but coilovers will...
suspension mods wont make you enjoy street driving, but engine mods will...... retired/

give me the 2 grand and il spend it on suspention / semis for tracking and a baffles sump.
you could possibly invest in some skid pan days etcOriginally posted by tinkerbellif anyone is under the impression VTEC is in any way bad for your engine - please understand that it is NOT bad for your engine,
maybe your drivers licence, but not your engine...

2K - my vote goes to
1. Mugen airbox for dc2r -> you'll love the induction noise and on a stock car, the response is definately improved.
2. Oil cooler kit -> keeps the car feeling fresh on spirited runs
3. Baffled oil sump.
If any money's left over, brake pads!!..:: Disciple of the DDang Driving School :: ..- Don't rev at me, I get scared -

My preference is pretty much the same as euGeR.
1. Baffled oil sump or just sump plates
2. Oil Cooler
3. Another set of rims with Semi Slicks
4. Fire Extinguisher, Helmet, Car Club membership, CAMS License L2S if you haven't already got those.
5. Good spare set of front brake pads and/or rotors just for the track, ADR approved braided brake lines, brake fluid, good engine oil.I am a lesbian trapped inside a male body

I sold the headers thinking that i was going to get the JDM front conversion... but it didnt happen.. Lol... Decided against the hassle.. it wasnt worth it..
As to what mods i want.. well I really don't know anymore.. Ive been changing my mind every few weeks as I keep hearing different things about the dc2r... eg. Don't touch the suspension as it's pretty much perfected out of the showroom, No point doing power mods as it's an NA and you dont get gains as easily etc etc...
So it's either the:
1. Suspension only route
2. Power Only route
3. A bit of both route
4. OP ready route
5. Track ready route
Lol... Im now encouraged to do abit of track prep and suspension.. sounds like a good way to go about modifying my car...Last edited by arron; 11-04-07, 05:00 AM.Wakefield 1:14.5640 - DC2R

completely agree with tinks here..
depends entirely on what u want to get from the car.
its pretty damn good stock, so why dont u keep your money now and just enjoy the car stock. it will take you time to get used to the car and feel 'at one' with it..
for track use, brake pads and a baffled sump, s-tyres in that order."What's the point of racing a car that doesn't look cool?" - Nakai-san, RWB

Nah.. I've had this car for over a year and just want a little more... and I want to reduce the roll as well... Thinking of thicker swaybars or just a height adjustable damper... But then if i want to change the damper, wouldnt i be better off just changing to coilovers altogether.. and it goes on and on.. Can't make up my mind.. Lol...
Don't get me wrong, I like how it is stock but i just want to make little improvements here and there..
No.. definately not a nissan boy..Wakefield 1:14.5640 - DC2R

Well im going to dive right in..
IF it were My car and my money i would have gone the suspension route frist as well.
but having said that.. Stock type R sussy are actually quite good for track well to learn on.. you dont exactly need a hardcore sussy setup just go for fun. i meen people go on in stock Jazzes even a barina? why not a stock type R its track ready..
people notice gains in aftermarket flywheels?, headers zorsst and CAI will give you noise which people love to hear. but little gains (there will be soome for sure depending on combination)
IMO dont bother with thicker swaybars yet.. sussy is far better mod in that sense than thicker swaybars..
its becomming more and more of a show thing rather than a track thing? IE people putting 26mm whiteline swaybars on their civic that never go tracking and sitting on King spring superlows? (i dont know anyone doing this its was just an example =P)
But if you go tracking once in a full moon.. Intake Headers and Zorst might give you what u want on the street.
But like Tinks said what do you want out of your car?

Changing ride height affects so many aspects of the suspension that you may not be aware of... so beware.
Also stiffer setups may be nice in perfect conditions... but this is the real world where there is rain, bumpy surfaces on roads etc. This is why the DC2R OEM setup is such a good compromise... you can pretty much drive it fast everywhere.
Some body roll isn't a bad thing. Without some roll your car will be a handful in the wet... understeer/oversteer/all-steer...

spring rates fo 10/6 will reduce the body roll, and make it a lot sharper around corners...
