What i know i want:
probably a late 90's model for the price i am budgeting for what will probably be the first of many for me... i have $15-18k to spend.
no JDM front- i love the round headlights
and of course the required body kit and mags hehe!
Besides that, the world is my oyster, and good ol' Ed told me that you fella's would look after me and point me in the right direction.
there are a couple on carsales that i like the look of- predominantly this one:

I welcome all the information i can get!
Cheers

1. It doesnt look like you are actually after a Type R if that Type R you had as a perfect example is what you want.
2. A Type R in good condition that wont cost you any more money to fix will NOT be under $20K.
3. Type R's aren't built for that purpose.
4. The example Ed showed is cheap, its clean, its under your budget, its perfect.
But each to their own as someone else already mentioned. Good luck and hopefully you take away the advice that some of us have given you.

If you want your type R to look like that go for it - it's your money, your car and the car you have to enjoy driving.
However, as evidenced above, many people will tell you (or try to tell you in their own way) that your interest in a type r should follow more from the driving experience it offers than any aesthetic appeal it might have or could have (with wheels and a body kit, etc.). If it is more the aesthetics you are interested in, as some have suggested, it may be more worthwhile buying a vtir. Of course, the vtir doesn't offer the same driving experience but aesthetically its very similar and the fact it's cheaper means you have more money to improve its aesthetics.
That said, if you choose to buy a type r like u posted or to modify a type like the one you posted go for it. Don't let the uppety jdm snobs on this forum discourage you.
Just make sure you get whatever you intend to buy thoroughly inspected so you minimise any surprises.Last edited by BF; 08-03-07, 08:44 PM."No Matter that you have a PhD and have read all of Henry James twice. like i said before if you really wanted to keep a budget of under 20k maybee a Vtir is a good choice i know it was a choice i made at that time i wanted a car as well i think i got a better deal doing it this way too.
Type R in general is built ready for the track. your lying if you say you have never Vtec..ed your Type R.. or even "raced" it
unfortunately things do go wrong in cars and its very hard to tell. best to always get it check out mechanically.. theres always ways to hide a problem (unfortunately there are people that will do that) not saying this is one of them but its true.
the Car when you test it out, it should hold an idle while cold and Hold a steady idle when warm. (not reving at 2000) if it seeks.. they you got a possible problem.
Things like a leaking radiator can be very bad, discoloration of the coolant (white froth?, brown specs of what look like oil in it) but usually easy to spot because you be leaving a trail of water =P
if the car blows blue smoke with load you have an issue.
i think white smoke meens there water boiling (i cant quite remember but i think thats what that meens) doesnt sound like a good thing could be an issue,,
Black smoke well to a limit.. just meens its running rich i believe most cars give out a bit of black smoke i supose it depends on what u meen as alot =P
hmm i forget what else i look for when buying a car. ohh at warm type R and Vtir ctec crossover is actually quite noticable.. atleast i think so i havent heard mine in ages =P once warm you should be able to notice it =P
as a Vtir owner i think a vtir is the perfect base to start of if you plan on doing mods.. Type R you can somewhat survive without the mods but people like to do it neway =P.
Vtir is like a builders dream you start low and work your way up (but Imo is plenty fun neway) type R is already close to the top you just want that little bit extra =P its like owning a penthouse on docklands and wanting to put a 52" plasma into it =P
type R place your budget slightly above 20k. vtir well .. depending on age anywhere from 10k to 18 19k.. vtir goes as old as 1994 (still the best year i say haha)
anyway shit i wrote heaps =P.. tinkerbell will prolly 2morrow rip apart what i said =P and either add comments and or agree =P
Edit: ohh and i agree with that Bizzy said above too!Last edited by Wlee2; 08-03-07, 08:55 PM.Memorable quotes

Dude...what are you going to be doing with this car? what is it intended for? If you are planning on tracking this car... then get a Type R. If you want a "cruiser" then get a Vti-r, Gsi, or maybe not even an Integra. Remember the Prelude is there too. Great cruiser that, and well in your budget.
Just think what that car is intended for. Type R's have close gear ratios, so drive on highways means that you have to rev the shit out of it. Vti-R's are sweet for highway driving. Just some little things you should know.
PS: Type R's are very emotional. ummm... as in, if you put on the wrong parts, you can loose power. So if you do end up buying a type R... and you want to modify it, IMO to do it properly is a bottomless money pit.
Just think long about the intended use for the car, before you buy one.

Hey guys,
thanks for all of the replies, there is the stuff i wanted in the first place!
I guess the reason for me wanting a type R isnt solely for its performance- and now that i know more about them and the aura they attract among their admirers, i think i will go for the cheaper option to start, and when i can afford it, make the upgrade to the type R (and keep it fairly stock hehe!).
Can anyone find out quickly if old mate still has his red vti-r for sale that ed posted the link to?
Cheers all!
Ryan
