hey man, what is the rattle like?

is it a low rpm/ idle rattle and goes away as soon as you get to about 2000 - 25000 rpm?

it is a low rpm rattle, but its from about 2,000rpm to about 4,500rpm. but when the vtc is disconnected, the rattle is gone, so its definately something to do with cam angles/timing...our guess is that they have been rattle gunned/miss-handled in the past and hence they're not sealing properly with the actuator...

no way!!! when are you pulling them out to check them? and whos doing it?

im getting phil to pull em out next time i come syd, maybe next weekend man...ill give u a call if im comming

oh and another question, what size exhaust are you running?

im running a custom 3" exhauste, but what does that have to do with anything?

ok, im getting a rattle with my toda spec C's at idle, to about 2500rpm, then it disappears, had it since rebuild, we cannot work out what is causing it. tried everything! So i am interested in the solution to this.

Sorry, exhaust question was in reference to the power that you car is making. I was having a look at the dyno print outs and im very very impressed!

oh ok, try replacing your vtc actuator...and check your vtc solonoid filter. are your spec c's brand new? or did you purchase them second hand?

bought new.. checked both, didnt replace the vtc actuator though.. interesting.

before you replace your actuator, disconnect your vtc and take it for a drive. if the noise dissapears then its most likely your actuator...is your car an 01' to 03'? cause apparantly on those models the actuators tend to wear out after a while...

Yeah, i was going to disconnect it tonight and take it for a drive.

It was checked when the engine was being put together and it was active at the time and the rattle has been there since day one after the rebuild.

but yeah it is an 02... so ill double check this tonight!

wait do you mean unplugging the sensor on the timing chain side of the engine?

yep, the sensor that connects to the vtc solonoid itself, its near the driver side engine mount. let me know how u go...

update...taking her to syd in 2 weeks to get the rattle rectified.

on another note, im seriousely thinking of boosting it with the spec c's and built bottom end...just need a bit of motivation to actually get it done. i wish i could get a ride in a boosted dc5r just to know how it feels...for sure that'll get me motivated....

mmm boosted Kseries are the shit... Check on k20a.org they have many boosted K series there. Hope you find the motivation.
