The first ever Top Gear UK show was rubbish too. They read out ads in the paper for used cars. Give the show time. You're just expecting them to take off where the UK show is right now.
I'd assume the reason for not being able to test supercars is insurance. Or perhaps the fact that the car only got there in time for the studio shoot. There are far too many haters for the first episode.
They would have a budget for the first season that's pretty tight, again referring to the UK show look at the production and stunts in the UK show in series 11. They have massive self made funds to do almost anything now.

Even if you compare first ep Vs first ep, the UK version made you want to watch more as they had the Zonda and the Lambo Merc and test drove them and they seemed to know and love cars.
Whereas the AU one advertised as "world exclusive LP560" and showed it for a matter of seconds and showed 4WD style cars are the majority of the show. I don't know what kind of audience they are trying to focus on, but is obviously isn't focused like the UK version. To make it more AU based should of started with the ford Vs Holden, which would have hooked more viewers more then the 4wd crud which was shown.
also what is with the track views, and not telling us what the track looks like?
my 2 cents.sigpic

I do agree with the track views. It was the worst part of the show. Out of focus, bad angles and a layout that doesn't show any of the cars qualities. The Aussie Stig has a terrible driving posture too.
