    what router do i need?

i have a PC with a LAN card, and a laptop with internal 802.11 wireless.

i aslo get my internets from a 3G USB dongle.

how do i set up a wireless network?

can i get a router that takes the 3G dongle? is this all i need?

i am not sure how the internets will connect - i have only done wireless with an ADSL ethernet modem before... not a USB dongle...

Is the 3G dongle you referring to a mobile internet/modem adaptor? Is this provided by a telco or a company similar to iburst, who provides internet hotspots around the country?

u can connect the dongle to ur pc, den create a wireless ad-hoc network and share ur net. Then other comps can connect to this pc without using a router.

But then the computer with the dongle will have to be turned on.

it would have to be turned on anyway.

the purpose of networking the PC and laptop wirelessly is to get data from the PC to the laptop via the WLAN...

                Ahhh, very cool.

I misinterpreted the original question so I'm glad someone answered before I gave my useless 2 cents worth.

                  nup.

need to connect the laptop to the PC as well - not just share a 3G connection...

the PC has no 802.11 wireless device yet.

                  the laptop has internal 802.11.

or does that device work as a router too?

It has one LAN port. The diagram on the PDF spec sheet should make things clearer:

so that LAN port goes to the PC? and the green line in that picture = data?

so i can access the PC from the laptop?

                        that would be great!

Yep 1 LAN port and then wireless...if you want to hook up more than 1 computer that doesn't have wireless then you can simply connect a switch/hub to the 1 lan port and it should work.
