    In that case....

The only things that i really loved about the DC5R over the IX is the gearbox and
the interior finishing.....also the seats......depending if your getting a jdm or aud.
If you get an aud evo...then the recaro's arent as grippy....japs must think our
    ass's here are bigger.

Insurance wise...yeah the evo is cheaper. only paying 1700/1800 atm

I didnt really mod my DC5R...but with the evo....full exhaust/ebc and you should be happy for a while....

ive considered a HSV on MANY occasions, but they are just so poor on the inside
True true, the VZ is my favourite shape becuase it has a nice front end, The only reason im going on about all this holden talk is becuase i met this guy over the weekend who had a VE clubsport, it was white with black leather interior, black rims & a supercharged engine, the thing sounded awesome & went like a bullet!

if only they have a way to truly differentiate the cop spec models from what a consumer buys... oh well

I'd love an LS1, but in a smaller car. Easy 300kw+ ATW with very little mods.

thanks Stan. I appreciate your thoughts! Interior finish isn't a huge thing for me, I drive a rattley 10yr old DC2R, so I found the EVO a nicer place to live in lol.

Here's some of my thoughts from lastnights drive..

          EVO 5:
          - Power, so much power.. so effortless!
          - Stability, felt more stable through corners, especially unsettling ones - might be my driving style though. I think it's the weight and size difference as well. Type R felt more bouncey (TODA Fightex DA vs Tien MONOFLEX?!?).
          - Grip - let it rip and feel the gripppppppppp

          Type R:
          - Steering - Much more feedback, sensory overload
          - Gearbox - Slick, fast and smooth. Evo is nice as well, I like it's mechnical notchiness, it's direct but you can feel its bulk. Nice G/b but I prefer Hondas.
          - Brakes, I preferred the Type R brakes, might be shat pads in the EVO though.

With the EVO I can tip it into a corner slowish, use the torque/power of the turbo and hammer the car through the corner.. with the type r, you need to carry abit of momentum into the corner and hammer out.. it takes abit more courage.

The EVO doesn't feel stressed at all whilst fanging, I can fang it all the way through in 4th gear and 3,000rpm and it is enough for it to hammer. With the type r, it feels like it's working hard, the car is frantic, very dramatic. Ideally, you want it at 5,000rpm+ and so you're constantly swapping gears.. you have the DC2R in the wrong gear and the EVO just walks away from you..

I guess in that sense the type R is more involving, so performance is more dependent on the driver.. EVO can mask the drivers shortcommings to some degree.. but by no means does it drive itself.

Both are great drivers cars in their own right. It's a case of different strokes for different folks.

Sorry if some of it doesn't make sense, it was a cut and paste job from an email I sent to friends..

Hmm. I drive an EP3 and swapped with my friends Evo 6 for 3 days. The power was addictive at first but by the last day I was dying for the EP3 again. Your thoughts basically mirror my own.

These Honda's are much more... hmm. demanding in terms of what they need to go fast when compared to all the diffs working for the driver in the Evo.

In the Evo, I tried going around corners at silly speeds and I'd be getting understeer then oversteer then understeer again as the power was being moved around the wheels, just so I could see how well the 4WD works with AYC and yeah, cornering slightly beyond the limit means youre not as quick as you can be, but amazingly, the car holds more or less the same line as if you were within the limits of grip.

Its really quite amazing what its capable of!

^do you find it takes the fun out of driving?

I think it depends on what aspects of driving you like. Do you like a challenge and enjoy the reward of balancing the car carefully on the edge of grip while still being able to keep up with cars with much more power than you?

Or do you like an easier time, feel safer, don't mind burning more petrol and destroy anyone on the road in any condition at any time. (I went through $50 in those 3 days and thats not going on cruises or anything. Just boosting every now and then.)

Both cars have their strengths and weaknesses. Both are very fun cars (and in a different class). I'd likely move to an Evo or an M3 after the EP3, but in the mean time, I have plenty of time to master FWD.

                  Agree.

I like that idea of being able to drive the typeR slower to get similar enjoyment!

I looked at an M3 as well. the E36, always loved that shape, but decided against it from readong some poor reviews, age and the insurance premium I was quoted.

Funnily enough EVO 6.5 insurance is cheaper than my DC2R.

                  EVO 1.4k*, DC2R 1.8k, M3 2.3k*

yeah its a little silly, I wonder if its because the Evo has 4 doors, or maybe because the Evo is considered a Lancer?

I very almost bought a E36 M3 in HK (because it was so cheap; think $15 000, 5 years ago) to bring down to Australia, but because I was an aussie citizen, I had to go through the P plate thing and as a result wouldn't have been able to drive it (Maybe could have badged it as a 318 hahah). Now though, its good to be able to drive whatever!

                      life after a dc2r

We all have moments in our life.

There is the you before that moment and the you after, but those moments mean things to you.

Please this is a thread for serious stuff people can post. No pics please.

I think every car has it's strengths an weaknesses. Even a slow car like my EF Civic is a hoot to drive. Now that I've got my dc2r it's a huge step up. But going back into my lil Civic for a drive to the shops etc., I still love it.

In terms of next car, what about s2000, 350z, or Boxter? Maybe even an NSX!!!

i was strongly considering ditching my dc2r , becuase it cant even woop a commodore, and getting an evo. not only is it 4 doors and practical, its bloody quick!

Then realised, fuel consumption, and uncertainty in reliability made me keep the dc2r. Its not a race afterall, and the dc2r is a great daily driver.

You can't woop a commodore in your DC2R? Either your car is on its last legs or your shifting at 4000rpm?

no i cant. VT commodore, without a hard launch, and just acceleration through the gears, both cars are identical. my dc2r has never been able to beat a commodore in that acceleration method, from when i first got it to now. I'd expect to be able to gain distance by pure acceleration at least. even with jdm 4-1, jdm cat, k&n drop in.

i also managed to pull one of the lowest dyno figures at a dyno day, full stock exhaust. 99kw atw. how shit is that for a car thats overhyped by the honda community. even a b16a del slow pulled 96.5kw atw.. wtf

i must admit, quite disappointed..BUT it kicks ass in the corners for a street car.

135,000kms, full service history... oh well. its still 1.8L na afterall. and it looks pretty good. ah blast, and its got a dealer fitted sunroof... extra weight right there...

i know street racing is bad, and i very rarely do it.. maybe once every few months so don't bag me out for racing, cos i dont.

having said that, is engine compression test the best way to check the health? Where do i get such test done?

Im a very proud DC2 ITR owner, but an auto V8 Commodore/HSV/SS etc will beat a ITR over 1/8 mile hands down.

Throw in some corners and its a different story.
