I agree with you.
The D80 has alot of features the 400D does not have.
Onboard wireless flash, low light focus assits does not requre the flash to pop up like on the 400D.

The best feature on the D80 IMO is the limiting ISO and shutter speed you can set.

D80 + kit lens is a great starter, the nikon kit lens is so much better than canon's.

D80 was sold as body only and single lens kit before. They have the twin lens kit now for the same price as the single lens kit.

hmmm, im also interested in gettin a dslr, but the thing is i only have a limited knowledge about cameras and what not. is it a waste of money for me to be getting a dslr at this point in time. i have been recently reading more into photography and i know bits and pieces but nothing substantial. what do you guys think?

bringing this back alive and i need a quick suggestion since im buying it from ebay the prices are quite cheaper.

Nikon D80 with 18-200mm VR lens or Canon 40D with 18-75mm IS lens both come under 2k delivered.

or I could get a Canon 400D with 18-75mm IS lens at 1.2k. The Nikon D40 with 18-200mm VR lens still comes in close at 1.5k.

If you're going to be doing alot of sport photography then 40D otherwise both are very similar just the lens mount that differs.
