So,what is the best solution to get all these people from doing touge runs?

1.Have more open days for late night quarter mile runs?
2.Open up the race tracks from morning to late at night?
3.Or do we need more avenues to race?

I believe we need more avenues and late night racing to reduce enthusists from getting into trouble with the police and the potential for killing themselves.

hmmm, well, since 1 & 2 currently exist, and are not being oversubscribed to any great extent...

one must question why they are not taken advantage of by "enthusiasts"...

the answer: the high co$t of sanctioned and legal motorsports...

find a way to reduce the cost of motorsport, and you will get more kids off the streets...

but wait - you go to the race track and there is a BIG sign stating:

"MOTORSPORT IS DANGEROUS - ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK"

this means the costs are massive, to try to protect driver safety, to provide 3rd party insurance, and attempt to maintain the circuit in the best possible condition to ensure the greatest level of safety for all participants...

cars are scrutineered prior to entry to the circuit/track, and an extensive drivers briefing is made prior to anyone being allowed onto the circuit/track...

to reduce such costs is virtually impossible…

it is a very difficult situation to amend…

and even if costs to race legitimately are reduced, there are still those who think it si a thrill to evade police, and subvert the authorities…

the WRX fatality on the M4 has got a lot more mass media air time... maybe simply due to the fact that a camera crew was able to get footage?

it is unnerving that i can't access JDMST during the day, as i was interested to see the reaction of my "morons" comment; made after one poster admited that they had already been diverted once by the cops once that night, yet still persisted in doing the runs...
High Profile = A number of forums are carrying this new, probably not a good description on hindsight...

Oh, I wasn't concerned over your Moron comments, there's probably some truth there as well...wouldn't be surprised.

        What Tink said...

Though, I wouldn't know if this will get people off the streets...Its so debatable.

There are heaps of organised activities and there are heaps of people willing to show new comers the ropes. People just can't be bothered to get off their butts to attend one.

Show off hands...How many of you here want to come join Tink, me, and a couple others in the supersprints? Get all your speed thrills and adrenalin from actual competition. I'm sure we'll be willing to show you around on the day...(Next appropriate one at Oran park GP in june)

No...I think its not the lack of avenues, its just the mentality and maturity...

            w3rd!

I think maturity and mentality plays a major role in drivers risking there life while partaking in such touge runs.

For people who don’t know, clubs run events called "Hill Climbs".

There are many car clubs in NSW to choose from and many of them run Hill Climbing events all over the state.

Hill Climbs are generally run on closed off public roads very similar to the Old Pacific Hwy.

They have fire marshals and ambulance people attending these events for competitor’s safety. Bearing this in mind, if the above person was running in a properly sanctioned event, they would have probably walked away from the crash with very little injury.

Yes it may cost a few pennies to enter, but weigh that up against "Speeding fines", "Defects", "Loss of license" or the worst "Death"

Hmm, I know what I would rather be doing (and currently do)

FWIW, 2 times each year, part of the Old Princess Hwy is closed off for hill climbing (near Bulahdelah)

There is no need to provide more avenues for people to "race". If you had the time and money, you could race every weekend at a huge variety of tracks and locations across NSW.

Car clubs in other states would offer you the same opportunity, you just have to get off your arse and look.

Actually the Dutton Rally organizes a run specifically through the Old Pacific Highway annually which is a closed road and sanctioned event as indicated above. Our type of cars are certainly more than eligible to participate.
