What oil were you guys running on?

Wasn't the best track day I guess. Extremely strong winds and dust that it made even just spectating uncomfortable. The drive on the way down was scary too!

I was in the same boat, only on the last session we manage to get a clean run thru. Throughout the day i was average 1.18's- 1.20's whcih is no way near what the car can do. I thought for a moment i had some mechanical problem with the car.

As said before too many damn cars.

I'm blaming a multitude of things for such pathetic laptimes on monday.. ie. traffic, wind, dust, oil temp warning beeping at me, getting used to semi slicks, thicker oil.. haha.. all excuses for the 1:16's

What temps were you hitting? So you end up going with semi's with no baffle sump?

I used a Nikon D200 with 500mm f/4 manual focus lens on tripod. The wind was picking up the lens hood and buffeting it around really badly, but I found if I hid in the shadow of the photographers shack at the end of turn 2, it protected me from the wind just enough to take some sharp photos.

(In past trackdays I've also used the 70-200/2.8 VR with 2x tele but the wind was actually too much for the VR to work, in fact even the D200 autofocus didn't work and the few test shots I took came out totally blurry!)

No wonder your pics are quite clear. Might have seen you around the pit that day then. The amount of DSLR on the day is amazing. Makes it look like a photoshoot meet more than a track meet

Yeah, I had a baffled sump put in last week, hence I was able to use the semi-slicks.

My oil temperatures were almost reaching 140 degrees C.. I had set the warning at 130, and that's when I would do start me cool-down laps.. It often took 2 cool-down laps to lower my oil temperatures to around 120 degrees C.. I was running on Elf 10w-50 oil..

Next mod = Earls/Trust Oil cooler

140 dC is hot as shit...I'm surprised you waited till that to back off...

I use the Mfactory Oil cooler kit, after 8 hard laps, Oil temps was around 110 dC.

Yeah.. I know it was hot but I assumed that type R's generally ran fairly hot overall.. But I never went over 138 degrees C.. Even I thought that was too hot.. and to think that I did more than 6 hard laps in a row at the previous trackdays..

But yeah.. cooling modifications are definitely next on the agenda...

I would stop even when its hitting 120 dc. let alone 140 You r brave arron

My old 200sx uses a 16 row Trust oil cooler and throughout the whole track session, it never go past 100 dc.

i back off at 125'C using Castrol EDGE 10W-60

the ELF probly can cope though?
