    Baffled Sumps

Have been reading a few threads about tracking the DC2R and the oil supply problems that it seems to have and since i am going to start tracking mine a bit more and am think of buying some Toyo R888's I would like some information about baffled sumps..... the questions are

1.which is the best brand to use?
    2. who sells them & there contact details (new item only over seas purchase ok )?
    3. will they fit a engine with STD exhaust header and oil pickup?

Any additional information would been eagerly recieved eg.. who not to deal with and what not to buy.

    Here's what I have to offer in terms of what I know about baffled sumps in dc2r's;

    1. They aren't essential but are more of an insurance on your engine as the stock dc2r comes with a slightly baffled sump. Some people consider this a definite mod if you think about using semi-slicks
    2. You can make a DIY baffled sump (but I neither have the skill nor the time)
    3. JDMyard don't make those sump plates anymore so no point in asking them
    4. Mugen baffled sumps can be had for around $350.. (remember you can sell your old baffled sump and get $70-100 back..)
    5. I'm purchasing mine from perfectrun.com.au soon
    6. Apparently, Mugen is win, Spoon is lose, in regards to baffled sumps
    7. Yes, they fit no problemo with standard header + oil pickup
    8. You could pay your mechanic to change it for you but it really shouldn't be that hard
    9. Do not re-use the sump gasket if is it has been ruined. Buy a new one!
    10. Don't forget to use sealant such as ultra grey when resealing the gasket

That's what I have researched so far about baffled sumps. Like you, I am considering the sump so that I can get a little more serious about tracking.. especially on semi-slicks

Thanks for that arron/tink a couple of more questions to put out there.

1.Has anyone purchased a new mugen DC2R sump lately, if so were from?

2.I always track my car with the sump 0.5 litre overful, which seems to be normal practice is there anyone who still does this with a mugen sump fitted? or is it not required
(does nt seem to cause any problems, i like the insurance aspect of it)

        3. is the oil capacity of the mugen sump the same a STD?

P.S. thanks tink ok with the DIY

I Got a J's Racing Baffled sump sitting in my garage about 2 go in this next sat..

comes with new sump gasket and old sump plug can be re-used...

May sound like a silly question...

Why would having a baffled sump depend on what type of tyres your running?

With Semi slicks u get alot more grip when cornering = alot more g-forces..

therefore the oil in the engine is staying on one side of the engine when cornering very hard... which can make it seize up because of lack of oil..

From what i've read, the extra grip provided by semi's during cornering may cause the oil to slush around in the sump more hence starving it of oil.

EDIT: Oops, looks like SHIFTY beat me to it :P

How many confirmed cases of fatal oil surge have there been in this forum?

                        Shifty,
Can you take some photos of your sump internals and post here?
I Would like to see the difference between the STD & the J's sump.
would you also Pm me the supplier (&contact details of them) that you used and the cost.
Has anyone got a photo of the internals of the Mugen sump?

For the type R guys, by overfilling oil level by .5. Are you running a catch can?

Run one and see how much oil it catches in one hard session of racing.

Hey, out of curiosity, was that a standard B18C oil sump, or was it the type R one (the one with that little baffling)
