You're still increasing rear grip by upgrading tyres. Suspension being the same. You'll need to upgrade spring rates if you're creating more downforce to help with downward force on the road. Fuel consumption also increases as the car is effectively heavier. For the road, optimal drag is as the manufacturer designs it. The reason why diffusers and wings are on track cars is to create more grip for cornering.

At the end of the day it's your car. If you're doing ti for looks then have at it, but you're affecting the drive of the car in doing so.
Adding a diffuser without doing anything to address front end lift could be used to tune the balance of the car to our advantage. Oversteer might be desirable in lower speed corners, however by using a downforce generating device at the rear you can effectively tune more toward understeer as speeds increase. M0nty is correct you may need more spring to maintain suspension travel, although I think that the amount of downforce generated by these devices is questionable. Especially when compared to strapping a great big wing to your car that you know will have the desired effect.

I also think that the Spoon diffuser on a stockish DC2R will look pretty bad. What ever happened to people wanting massive wings to look like race cars, now we have to have underbody aerodynamic devices too. Madness.

If I had an S2K... that would be one of the first mods!

What this guy says is correct. I still have to question the motivation of the OP though. I'm building a Time Attack car and have never thought about a rear underbody diffuser because I don't see the gains as being big enough vs expense. I'm getting all my downforce needs through a conventional GT wing, canards and front splitter. The rear bar has wing tips of sorts but I don't expect much out of them.

The DC2 never really had any issues high high speed oversteer unless you savagely lift off throttle or hit the brakes hard and turn. Neither of which are great ideas. Neither issue is going to arise on the street either.

I think we could safely file this one under "rice" in this application.

I'd prefer a GT wing. If you're looking to curb oversteer and increase rear end grip the GT wing is a much better idea and has a greater effect. It's also adjustable.

Tom and I were chatting. Could we suggest if you want carbon goodies on your car which will save weight and improve handling go for a carbon bonnet and canards. Neither will look out of place on a white stock bodied DC2 either.

unless you have completely flat undertray a diffuser on a street car will always be negligable performance wise.

Saw your car last night on PineLands road heading inbound... i was going outbound.

And trust me... people up here (Brisbane) wouldn't have the any idea what a rear diffuser does... let alone that its only there for "rice"... you would probably start a trend. I'm sure once you get that Mugen wing your looking for with the Diffuser you'll have positive results... either way... get the diffuser if your keen on it... might encourage me to get one

I have been contemplating Canyards on my DC2R for a year or so now.

But they just look like such shit on AUDM front. JDM front they look hot!

                          hehehe... Would love to. Kinda.
2 minds right now... I think the JDM front looks a little 'dated' compared to the AUDM front. I can't justify $3000 on a front end when mine is perfectly fine. Maybe one day though...

Add a splitter and it'll look good with the canards.

i got them! but i'm still working out the ways of getting it on safely...

                                only made for jdm front...

gotta get some self tapers, fix to a solid spot. It comes with small metal brackets, however to be used you have to re-drill holes in the splitter.. its a very slow project if you don't have the hours..

coming weekends i'll hopefully have it on and i'll be sure to put up photos
