    wheel & s-tyre options for dc2R

im considering getting a new set of wheels for my dc2r.
im trying to decide whether to go for 15x7+42 with 205/50s or 16x8+42 with225/45s

i want to use s-tyres (YH A048s, BS RE55Ss, DL DZ03Gs, TY R888s) which are unfortunately not offered in too many appropriate sizes.

i'd like to maintain as close to possible to stock rolling diameter, so ideally i would have 195/55 R15s or 205/50 R15s, 205/45 R16s or 215/45 R16s.

unfortunately it appears none of the s-tyres are available in 205/45 or 215/45 in the 16s, so i have been looking at 225/45 16s (available in Toyo R888 and Dunlop DZ03G, dont know about RE55s and A048s).

has any of you used 225/45 r16s and 16x8s on a dc2r with coilovers? i'm worried about scrubbing. also will the larger rolling diameter of the 225/45R16 make the car slower in acceleration? (i am not planning on changing gear ratios or final drives to compensate for this, nor do i have big power to negate the difference, my car is light-tune only).
am i better off sticking with 15x7s and 205/50 R15s, especially as this would be cheaper?
or will i have no problems with the better looking 16s?
    please help

Stock enkei lighweight rims with stock setup.

Bridgestone Adrenalin R001's. Best tuned setup. Tuned from factory.

Unless you want bigger brakes... You need bigger rims then.

thanks i know keeping my stock wheels is an option.
i currently run bs RE55S's, if u read my post i want to continue running s-tyres.
i will not be upgrading to larger brakes.

      so..anyone have experience running 225/45 R16s and 16x8s on a dc2r? help pls!

I have obviously not tried your proposed setup (as I drive a dc5 ) but the RE55s, A048 and A050 all come in a 225/45-16 with the RE55s also coming in a 215/45-16. These are all according to the Japanese sites so they may not be imported in these sizes, they also may not be available in the compounds you want .

I think you could get away with a lower offset 16x8 wheel as I would be concerned that with a +42 offset you would be too close to the inside of the guard. This all depends on camber and whether you are willing to roll guards I guess. This is all unknown to me though as I dont have much experience with dc2s.

Also if you dont need to drive the tyres on the street, the Hoosier R6 comes in a 205/45-16.

Sorry for being a tyre noob, but is there any advantage/disadvantage of 205 55 15 on stock rims instead of the stock 195 55 15.

unfortunately the bridgestone and yokohama suppliers in SA dont bring in 215/45 R16s even tho theyre available in japan. bummer.

                so..any of u trackday junkies tried this setup? (225/45 R16s on 16x8s?)

hmm.. i have seen a few of the tuning companies in japan use 225/45 R16s on their dc2r's..eg. m&m honda, techno pro spirits, etc. but they generally run smaller on the rear..and some of them run wider front guards..also dont know but they may be running different gearing etc..
still, stock jdm '98 dc2r runds 215/45 r16s so its not that much larger than 'stock', or so it would seem..

but WHY do you want to run them? are these 16x8 teams going faster than the others?

is that what you are trying to do? go faster?

then to do so with 16's you have to pay the big bucks, unless you want to end up with heavier rims and tyres (read slower) than you started with...

blackdc2 runs SSR 16's, but probably 16x7, and has the 225's on the front i think...

                        hmm thanks tinks..
yes discussed with steve from centrax and he thinks 16x7 or 16x7.5 would be better than 16x8..

                        hmms..

                          I have 16 x 7 +42 with D01J 205.50.16 with no scrubbing issues...
I have also used 17x7.5 +30 with street 205/45/17 also with no scrubbing issues, the rear guards have been rolled though..
Here is a pic of the 16's

He runs 16 x 8 42 SSR with 225/45R16 on the front. Guards needed to be flared, inner guard removed and we took a hammer to the seam running around the top of the inside of the guard.
