    speed sensor on dc2

    Hey,

    Yesterday, my speedo korked it. My cluster is working perfectly fine, except for the speed. On idle, the needle sits on off, and then goes up to speed as I start going. It seems to blurble a bit and jump around at times - especially above 70km/h. At times it will completely go to zero as im driving, and at times shoot all the way up to 180km/h (mind you ive never hit 180 in my life haha)

    Is it the speed sensor? or is it the cluster?

    Does anyone have a spare speedsensor for me? anyone know how to fix this problem?

    i had a similar problem Eric, it was my battery negative terminal that was loose, give that a quick check. hope it helps

      wiggled it around.. doesnt seem any looser(?) than previous. but still the idle sits at zero.

      the speed seems to work fine, but is obvoiulsy slightly off since, idle is sitting on OFF rather than just above.

      and then when i hit higher speeds, thats when it starts going crazy.

            o sorry. Its the Vehicle Speed Sensor. goes into the gearbox and reads the number of teeth, could be loose, fouled, old, etc etc.

              yeah speed sensor is what i thought.

              can anyone help in sourcing one? or helping me fix it?

                Not knowing what or how a VSS works.
                You might get away with pulling the sensor out and giving it a clean?
                Do your revs work?

                  yeah - im a "not knower" as well ed. I would assume its just like anyother sensor on the car, that is just a little clip type thing, that either needs to be cleaned or replaced.

                  revs and everything else on the cluster works fine.

                      VSS sensor sits on gbox.. access from top...its the only big plug there, you wont miss it..

                      Take it our and give it a clean with circuit cleaner or the like..

                      then try again..

                        has it been taken out or anytihng in the car been chagned of recent ? Perhaps some liquid (usualyl coolant) is inside shorting it out. As Blitz said above try to clean it out with circuit cleaner.
                        Is the ECU throwing a code on the dash ? Try a DIY ecu test to see if it is the VSS
