I disagree with you Sangers, 3 inches is too big imo, its almost stupidly loud for the street, and forget about passing a cop

We havent completed the tests on the new 2.5 inch exhaust system, but its fair to say judging from my bum dyno that this 2.5 inch system feels faster than the 3 inch system I had.

I think it may be due to the following:

1- The 3 inch system and 2.5 inch system difference was not much, but a change from the 3 inch system from the head (ie extractors all the way back to muffler tip) to a merged collector design on a 2.5 inch exhaust and header system feels like there is much more power in the low mid and high end.

2- A well tuned 2.5 inch system creates a much better vacuum under light throttle and mid/partial throttle (how often are you full throttle?)

3- The weight saving, doesnt seem like much, but in NA tuning, kilos off = power.

Not having a go at ya Sangers, this is just my experience

fair enough. im a cyber warrior on this topic. i am only going off what reports ive read on clubrsx and k20a.org, so since you have first hand experience, you're certainly the better source of knowledge on this topic. i'll concede that.

and i think u're right about the matched full exhausts. most headers are designed to be mated to 2.5" exhausts so if someone is planning on going with a 3" exhaust, it would have to be custom and the headers would have to be custom made to match to take full advantage of it as well. that makes sense.

u can also save weight by having the exhaust manufacturered out of low mass material and it doesn't have to be titanium

my car runs a mugen twinloop and toda headers and after reading those threads i posted i seriously considered the 3" route but now considering the sound and cost implications its just not a very feasible route for a car that is primarily driven on the street.

but i would recommend that anyone building a k20 powered track car should seriously consider using a 3" exhaust, high cam angle and upgrade every part of the intake system.

Personally all this talk about power i still reckon weight saving will attribute better gains overall.

Sangers, thats the thing, even on the track Id give up 5 kws at the top for the much more punchier mid. However I dont know what power gains would be with everything matched, guess someones gonna have to fork out big and do it.

Agree with you Jingers, my car gained much more by dropping 100 kilos than making 50% more power

                dc5 has kick ass interior
obviously turbo is faster than vtec
