Yeah, though T1R makes a 70mm Exhaust for DC2R, it's starting to get common to see 70mm Exhausts for DC5R/K20A platform and F20C's, though I wouldn't go that far unless I was at the point of trying to extract what ever I could from the engine (hardcore tuning)

3inches netted me a loss of 15kws in the low to mid below 5,500 rpms from a 2.5 inch exhaust. i gained 4 kws at the top end after 5,750...big whoop, ive lost so much to gain a peak of 4kws.
Im going back to a 2.5 inch when i complete the euro1 on the dc5.

That is exactly what I'm talking about.
No doubt a 3" system will get you better 'peak power' than a 2.5" system.
But you sacrifice low-mid range for that better peak power.
If it was a track only car, then yeah. 3" might be better as you'd want to be over 5,000rpm most of the time.

just from reading this thread, not the rest of the info, a 3inch exhaust could be put in the same boat as the Injen CAI compared to mugen intake. it gives you peak power gains but losses in mid range which for a street car is prolly not much use

i also remember i think from crsx along time ago that hondata dude said he put on a custom 3 inch exhast and the gain was > anything out there....too bad it's all pruned

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the attributed gains significantly controlled by what the ECU feeds it? Without relevant core modifications as I've stated, this isn't going to be a blistering change.
Your usual I/H/E applicants need not apply, we're measuring advance NA tuning for specific purpose. Heck, the rule of bigger the better does apply on exhausts which everyone knows but it isn't the blanket tuning headlines.
How many people can drive a full 3 inch or larger pipe and safely say it's definitely worth it for that "5-8kW" increase from running a smaller pipe? AFAIK, my full 3 inch measured in at close to 130dB on the full titanium. That is as loud if not louder than a 747 at full throttle take off and even I have hesitations carrying this machine out of the garage unless absolutely necessary.

i would agree with you. if the plans are only to bolt on I/H/E/ECU, the results show so far that a 2.5" exhaust would be more beneficial than a 3" exhaust but i would like to shoot down anyone who says a 3" is too big for n/a applications because it's simply not true. if you plan to upgrade your cams (or if you already have high compression cams, eg jdm k20a) and you tune your car with the right cam angle, then i recommend going for a 3" exhaust. why stop there. i say get upgrade your throttle body and intake manifold as well.
the point i was trying to make was the k20 defies common n/a tuning convention. and people shouldn't so easily write off having a 3" or larger exhaust if they can put up with the noise. and guess what... yes it is a 2 litre, four cylinder engine.
Well i am contemplaiting going to a custom 3" system along with a RBC manifold and 70mm throttle body. Main Reason for this is the fact that i am running Spec C Toda Cams and i think the extra intake and exhaust capicty will dramatically increase my top end gains, and considering thats where the power is made in my car it is benificial to my setup.
Most of the yanks are using 3" zorst and RBC intake manifold with 64 or 70mm throttle body when running spec 2 or 3 cams and making very good gains....
