I installed my Mugen Intake today. Started about 1pm, finished 7pm. But that included dinner and late lunch and a little procrastinating and umming and arring and looking through the service manual to make sure i dont undo and screws that i dont need to undo.

I did take off the front bar and i reckon it would be bloody hard without doing that. especially the part where you take out the old resonator. which has to come out straight down.

You have to take out the stock air box and the mount it sits on. but you re-use two of the screws from the mount later in the install.

I unscrewed the coolant/water tank at the front of the engine bay to help with the filter box install (it goes back on when its all in ok afterwards)... it was a bloody tight fit getting the big arse filter box and pipe in but it fits!

it took a bit of head scratching by me and my dad but we figured out how to use the green tape and the silver tape. the green tape goes around the outside of the extension pipe that goes on the end of the big filter box/pipe. This is to try to create a snug fit as you put it in. its not thick enough but its not too bad. we doubled it up in one part where the gap was big. The silver tape is really strong sticky tape and so goes on the outside of this connection to try to make sure she is all air tight. Its shown in the photos.

The little roof over the extension pipe took a little thought but my dad was happy its there as he was concerned about dirt getting in. ????

We did damage some of a freshly painted quarter panel as some of the screws are a pain to get out... but its not necessary if you use force and bend rubber/plastic bits to make things more accessible.

You must push the actual cone filter onto the silver metal round thingo before you try to put it into the filter and connect to the rubber intake hose. This is very important else its too hard trying to push it on later when its in the filter enclosure.

I am not a hands-on type of guy but it wasnt really that hard. its more of a mental barrier. Not wanting to screw things up and forget what went where.

I think this is definately DIY possible! but i dont think you should do it alone if your not very experienced. Many hands and brains make light work.

I put the Mugen sticker on but not sure if its just going to make problems if a cop asks to see the engine bay?

I took it for a fang after i finished but not on any flat ground so i dont really know if it has made the car much faster.... but the noise. OH! the noise is just fantastic. The car sounds so awesome when you go on and off the throttle (100% on and off) around 5k-7k rpm. Its such a pleasure to give here the "full welly"! The response from the engine is definitely improved i think.

Only downside is the stupid whistle that you can hear when you apply around 1/3 throttle between 3 and 4 krpm... its really loud when the radio aint on.

but its a small price to pay!

I will be doing some acceleration runs soon to compare against stock and will let you know of the improvements in performance. I will also see what my butt dyno says on familiar roads.

you don't like the whistle? i love it! i make sure i aim to push the throttle the right amount to always get that whistle sound... i heard somewhere that when it whistles, that is the perfect air flow through the intake system... where the air travels at the right velocity... some sh!t like that, anyway... my intake gave me 5 kw atw... that's with everything else stock on the car. enjoy!

yeah after a day of driving i'd say that is about right. car definitely feels more lively. esp in the mid range i reckon.

absolutely loving the noise. Honestly, it reminds me of my friends F430!

Nice man. I freaking HATE the whistle! So annoying... Chiks find it "cute" though. LOL.
                            Mid range is awsome hey!

Sory to bring up an old thread but i was just having thoughts,
that extension section of the intake it..
is that how the intake is made & does it face up for all of the kits?

would it more better if it was facing the front?

mugen design the the extension cone to face up, but you can make it facing the front. IMO is base on preference, i prefer facing it up as mugen design it like that and maybe that's the best option.
