but does it disable the passenger air bag when the ecu knows there is a problem with the drivers side air bag?

no it wont disable the passenger side

the plug is to trick the airbag computer to make it think there's a airbag there....you can DIY your own plug if you have a multimeter to test what ohms the airbag is....then just get the same resistor and plug it into the airbag plug and it will turn off the airbag light....passenger side will still work as normal
