    Mugen Baffled Sump

    It arrived today..

its quite well made by the looks.. but i cant find any "Mugen" on it

Its interesting looking at the inside of a sump.. the sump plug is by no means right at the bottom of it. there would be a bit of cruddy oil left in your sump everytime you change your oil...

Mugen pan is a modified honda pan, your not going to find mugen on it.

none of the stock pans drain completely.

as long as it does its job, no point having the word mugen written all over it, not like you'll see it anyway

i'm obviously not really after bling.. it is a baffled sump after all.. not a bling type mod.. and i dont have a single sticker on my car.. not that there is anything wrong with that..

I have one too, the quality is amazing.

My mechanic actually uses the air hose to blow/suck the oil out at the bottom of the sump, which just means if I do the oil change myself, I won't be able to do it properly.Does anyone (looks over to Tinkerbell) have any tips on how to do this ?

seriously, i change my oil every 5000km...

so it wont matter if there is a little bit left in the sump, as long as you change 90-95% of the oil, you will be fine...

it might be as little as 80% actual new oil in situations where an oil cooler and remote filter set-up is used (ie my set-up)

that said - i do vary the jacked up height of the car (ie lower the car when towards the end of the drain so that the oil hole is the lowest point...) i believe that is sufficent...

also dropping the oil HOT will help increase the amount of oil that is ultimatly drained... **warning** wear appropriate safety equipment if dropping the oil hot...

ive seen some mechanics give the engine a light crank after they have drained most of it ..

                which i dont recommend doing..

When I changed my sump the engine was at about 85,000km. Had always been serviced at regular Joe workshops until I bought it. Well, the old sump was really clean at the bottom: no gunk, nothing.

Biggest problem I have now is I can't easily change the almost 1L of oil stuck in the oil cooler system. I make up for it by changing oil about every 3000km.

when you use semis on track the gforces move hte oil in the sump around. If this happens engine does not get the proper lubrication it requires as the oil is everywhere. THe sump will keep the oil level and therefor providing a constant supply of oil to the engine. Which will possibly help prevent a very very huge problem.

during hard cornering (Especially with semi-slick tyres) the oil inside your engine is forced to the side and up the inner walls of your sump...

the oil pick up point is in the middle of the sump.. if there is no oil in the middle where the pick up point is your engine will be be starved for oil during the corner..

if you happen to have high revs and/or high temp then this could destroy your engine.

many people say the dc2 doesnt need a baffled sump but $450 isnt a large price to pay to keep my daily driver safe..
