      I just got quoted $205 fitted/balanced from Australia's Best Tyres for 195/55/15.

        I'll say 16" is a good balance.

I'm running AD07 205/45/16 and i can say they are a very good tyre but the road noise can be a bit annoying especially on the highway (lesson learnt on my last trip to melb with my headunit broken )

I prefer the 205/45/16 over my other set (205/50/16)

I always thought 215/45/16 was stock on JDM Type R's so why would these not be suitable for our cars ?

            Correct...

But try and find tyres in this size that are readily available! (PS if you do, let me know!)

              I'd go 205/45... on a 16x7 rim!

And Toyo make them for a reasonable price too!

in terms of 205/40 17s, pricing for the DL sport maxx's was $223ea, toyo t1r's were ~ $260ea. ie not a massive difference between prices of good 16" tyres and 17" tyres.

JDM Honda Integra Type R spec. 98 onwards had as standard 215/45x16 tyres running on 16x7 +50 rims. The Type R spec. 96 had 195/55x15 tyres as standard on 15x6 +50 rims. The respective rolling diamters are 600mm for the spec. 98 onwards and 595 for the spec. 96 (same as Australian DC2R). However, each model had different gearing. Basically, the spec. 96 (and Australian DC2R) have a final ratio of 4.4:1 while the spec. 98 onwards had 4.785:1 ratio.

The first three gear ratios in each Japanese model were the same (also Australian model). However, the spec. 98 onwards had a higher 4th and 5th. The Australian DC2R has the spec. 98 gear ratios with the spec. 96 final. I think a spreadsheet might be better now if we want to really compare ratios and the various size/profile tyres that are available.

I have 205/60x15 tyres on my JDM DC2R 96 spec. for running around the place and I used to run 215/50 x 15 on the track. Rolling diameter for the 205/60 x 15 is 627mm, while the 215/50 x 15 is 596mm. However, the 205/60x15 do scrap on really bad bumps.

Hey evatec, great informative post, but Aussie DC2R has 4.785 FD. I know, I have counted the teeth on it! And I know other people who bought an upgrade, only to find it was already 4.785. Honda did incorrectly put it as 4.4 in a lot of documentation, but a few key places they listed it as 4.785 as well.

There was gear ratio SS floating around... cam?

You are probably right as far as final ratios go. I was going off advertising material only. I'll check the actual part number of the final drive for the Australian model.

From the Japanese parts manual, the spec. 96 final gear has part number 41233-P80-V00. The US DC2R has exactly the same part number meaning the same 4.4 ratio. The 4.785 ratio final has part number 41233-P80-E30 in the 98 spec. JDM DC2R. I'll have to check with the local friendly Honda dealer exactly what part number final actually went into the Australian DC2R (1999 as opposed to the later 2000 & 2001 deliveries).

00dc2 - My rt215's lasted 20,000km's plus, but I was commuting a lot at that time. They didn't get much spirited driving. They only got bad/hard right at the very end for me.

evatec - that would be great to finally confirm FD via part number.

Got mine from Bob Jane locally because I know some guys who work there.

But for 15" I'm not sure. If you are running these on OEM 15x6 wheels, get 195/55... they will feel much better. 205/50 should only be used on 6.5 or 7" wheels, otherwise the baggy sidewalls will cause more tyre movement on the rim.
