    16 or 17 Rims for DC2?

For Buddy Club P1's, should I go 16 or 17?

17 is still light, so for me, the deciding factor will be tyres.

    Obviously for 16 it'll be 205/50/16 and 17 will be 205/40/17

But which one has the best performance tyres available? I'd like to run high performance tyres, non semi-slicks. Maybe Perilli's or something.

Anyone know the rough price of performance tyres for 16 and 17?

    Cheers

    ??

arent the stock jdm size tyres 215/45/16 on 16x7 rims?

17x7.5 would be nice then you can comfortably fit 215/40/17's like Falken RT615

Then again, what do other owners say about riding on wide rubber? Does it improve the DC2 or is it just unecessary extra weight?

      BZZZZT! Wrong. For 16" you'll want 205/45 16" or 215/45 16"... 50 is too tall.

Personally I use Michelin Pilot Preceda 2's in 205/45 16" - they cost around $215ea. You could probably find them slightly cheaper than this too.

Most performance tyres in this size will be > $200. Goddamn why won't Bridgestone AU give us RE-01R here...

I think Felix picked up his T1Rs for like 174 This is in 16s but I'm unsure of the exact width etc

I vote for 16's for handling feel and just looks right on DC2R. Also I've tried 15x6, 16x7, and 17x7 rims at wakefield and i was fastest on the 16's, for what its worth.

            Thanks.

So in 205/45/16 or 215/45/16 - there's a WIDE array of performance tyre options?

              wrong!

215/40 tyres will have too large a rolling diameter, therefore slow down your acceleration. they are too big for a dc2R, unless u plan to change gear ratios/final drives etc.

also, legally 17x7 is the maximum size u can go.

              i run 17x7 +43 P1's on my dc2r with 205/40 17s.
performance tyres in this size with the correct load rating (84V minimum from memory) include..

*dunlop sport maxx (i just bought these for ~ $220ea. review coming soon..)
*yokohama avs es100 (usually ~$270-280ea - i had these the last 2 sets. very good)
*toyo T1R (usually similar price to the yokos - havnt tried these but they have quite a good reputation here)

i beleive some of the top-end pirelli's come in the right size too, but they are exxy! might as well get toyo R888 s-tyres in that size if ur spending that much!

i am very happy with the 17's and with this tyre size the rolling diameter is almost identical to stock, so there is no adverse effect on acceleration, while cornering grip is improved.

i dont think there is a much larger range of tyres available for the 16s in the right size, actually. price difference also isnt that big afaik.

16x7s (or 16x7.5s if u dont care about legality) are probably the ideal compromise between street and circuit, as they look great while still being technically more suited than the 17s, as they use a tyre with a slightly taller sidewall. the very small sidewall on 205/40 17s considerably stiffens the ride and handling is not necessarily improved as the tyre has limited vertical give.

im very happy with my 17s and i think their winding road performance is exceptional, and i think the car looks great. and for the track i use my stock rims with s-tyres.

yeah I heard the Toyo's are pretty decent, without going into the $$$ Pirelli's.

                According to: http://www.toyo.com.au/proxes%20t1-R%20page.htm

They have 205/45ZR16 87W - which I think would suit me.

szymonsta, thanks for that. I didn't think they was many choices for performance 205/40/17's but thanks for clarifying.

Definately thinking I'll stick to 16" with 205/45/16. Anyone know what performance tyre options I have in this size?

since we're talking about tyres on rims...

15x6.5 i would suppose the best tyres will be 205/50 or 205/55? or is tat too wide??

                      I'll second the 16" recommendation...

As for the tyre recommendation, the Pilot Preceda 2's are without a doubt the best overall street tyre I have used on the ITR. No big deal, you say? Well... The tyres I have used so far on my car are (all 205/45 16") :-

                      Yokohama AVS-ES100
                      Dunlop FM901
                      Dunlop DZ101
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2 (don't ask, car came with them on OK!)
                      Michelin Pilot Preceda (original version)

                          yeah your right...

the difference in rolling diameter between 195/55/15 and 215/40/17 is 1.37%

                          the difference will be huge

I got 17,000km from a set of the original Preceda's... by comparison the much softer AVS-ES100 Yokohama only gave me 9,000km (rotated them front to rear after about 5000km and the front ones were close to the treadwear markers already!). I guess you can figure out my driving style based on that.
