New throttle body new problem dc5r

Yeh that's why you need to use vice grips or a set of plyers. Mash up the outside of the head. You can always replace them later with normal Bolts. That's what I used to take mine off and put back on because I'm a ghetto DIYer.

That's genius bro. Thought I was a ghetto mechanic. I was wrong. Need to take a page from your book. I'll try it when I get out of bed.

if that doesnt work - i usually find this easier:

          +

          aim for simiar to this

i.e. turn it into a screw...

but you have to do it perfect, and a bench vice helps alot!

Re: New throttle body new problem DC5R

Okay bad news first guys: the torx screw driver for the 6 point head is readily available. The 5 star head requires going to a locksmith and getting a security clearance to buy one. Honda service department are closed on weekends.

Went back home. Instead of trying to remove the black plug part of the valve, I pulled off the valve itself along with the coolant passages using a Phillips head screwdriver. As many suggested, the valve itself had seized. I pulled off the healthy iacv off the old throttle body, gave it a good clean and attached it on. Solved my problem.

Cheers for all the help guys.

Why the hell would you need a security clearance?

Because the 5 starred fastener is the same one people use for windows and security fasteners. Apparently. Would probably be better to go to Honda and get a mate to pull it off for you

Lol yeah did seem a bit farfetched when the guy down at the tools shop said so. Oh well. Buying online wouldn't have been the best option since I needed a fix straight away. The car is my daily.

Your not a professional DIY'er unless you can fix everything with vice grips, big fkn hammer, superglue and chewing gum!

Re: New throttle body new problem DC5R

Vice grips were used to remove the entire valve. Those screws were on tight.

                        Don't forget cable ties.

Anyway car seems to idle better now. Cold it idles just above 1500. Warm it drops down to 900, 800.

erm, yeah - but was the old TB broken too? you could have just put it back on?

regardless - my point was the person who told you about the locksmith bullshit is probably still laughing.

Hey man, finally caught a breather and followed up. Really really strange the IACV was dead when it arrived to you cause it was working perfectly fine when it was on my car before it was taken off by a few others.
But I'm glad it all worked out.
