    K20/A3 Oil pumps......

    Hey all,

Need some help with oil pumps...
I will be running the K20A2 oil pump on the K24 block...
HOWEVER, taking apart the K20A3 block yesterday I found my oil pump looks like a K20A2 pump and not like the K20A3 should....

    K20A3 pump should look like....

what my pump looks like (sample photo)

    Can anyone varify this??
Also i did notice that the A3 block has no oil squirter (K20A/2 have a squirter) it has a bolt with a washer blocking this off.

My questions is.......... Will my oil pump be the same as the K20A2 pump? and if so, should I just use this on the K24 block or actually buy the K20A2 pump just to be safe?

That does look awfully similar to a K20A2 oil pump. Are there any part numbers on it?

Buy a k20a oil pump. K20a3 doesn't come with oil squirters.

But what is the difference with the pump itself?
I will need to block off the oil squirter in the K24 anyway

OEMAcuraparts seems to think that the RSX oil pump for the K20A2 is the same as the K20A3:

                http://www.oemacuraparts.com/parts-c...p-oil-strainer

A guy here also suggests that there are two different oil pumps depending on where the K20A3 came out of:

It certainly looks like a K20A2 oil pump.

                  Mugsee, Thanks for those links.

I just want to be 100% on this. I really dont want to use the base one if its not the same as the K20A2 one and then have oil starvation from a shit pump.

Why would you block off the oil squirters? For the price of a new oil pump i would get one. On all motors i've built i only used brand new oil pumps.

if you dont want a blown up engine - always use a brand new oil pump anyway.

                      this is a fundamental concept.

I have read and been told that the oil squirter must be blocked off otherwise you will have low oil pressure...

Can you share a little more info on why new oil pumps are used?
Due to the fact I have found metal fragments in the oil and sump I wasn't too keen on re-using the pump. BUT if there was a safe way of pulling apart the pump and cleaning it I would have concidered it.
Also I did findit interesting to find the same oil pump as the K20A2. I always thought mine would have been similar to the K24

You can take apart the K20A2/3 oil pump to clean the inside of it. Have you had a look inside?

                            a) you know it is to factory spec.
                            b) you know nothing has ever stressed it out
                            c) you know it is clean

                            most importantly in your case

                            d) it not is off a BLOWN motor

exactly the same reasons you should never re-use or buy used oil coolers & systems...

I had a look around the pump and found the rest of the damage from the head.
So im guessing when I pull the pump apart I will find some fine metal fragments in there as well.
