A+ thread would read again. I have the same problem in my Micra, on a hot day at low speed the knob and shifter will get quite toasty from heat from the exhaust. Harden up.

This is how i avoid this issue, if it's a short driver, no dramas but whenever i've had to do long drives in the DC5R, glove on left hand is a must for the gearknob.
Not to be difficult in an already difficult thread, but in a DC5 there is basically no way for heat to be directly conducted or radiated to the shifter. The entire shifter assembly is within the cabin, and there is an air gap, the steel of the floor pan and the plastic shifter base all preventing heat transfer from the exhaust to the shift rod and knob itself. If your knob is getting hot something is wrong, it should only get hot from the sun etc.

and it is a cable shifter, not a rod shifter like DC2...

When i've taken the car to work on the oddest of occasions, car sits there for 8 hours... Gearknob made of aluminum, burns like a mofo, i see no harm in wearing a glove on my left hand to avoid getting burn't like a retard.

Once air con has cooled the car down, then it's a different story but for the first 15minutes of driving, it isn't exactly fun to put your hand on a gearknob that feels like 100 degrees.

Anyway, im glad some find it amusing and laugh, not that i really care what other people think. Everyone has there own unique habits.
