Once air con has cooled the car down, then it's a different story but for the first 15minutes of driving, it isn't exactly fun to put your hand on a gearknob that feels like 100 degrees.

Anyway, im glad some find it amusing and laugh, not that i really care what other people think. Everyone has there own unique habits.
I have to admit, I also have had this problem before as my car sits in direct sunlight while I'm at work and my billet shift knob does get pretty bloody hot especially on like a 40 degree day, hot enough so it's uncomfortable to touch, like when you accidentally turn the hot tap on too hot and scold your hands lol. I usually put my sunglasses cover over the shift knob so it's not so hot on my hand. For a while I had my golf glove in the car and also used that over the shift knob too lol autumn and winter are coming soon so we won't have to worry about this serious problem for much longer! :P good to see op's problem is fixed as well.

Its amazing how much the interior carpet keeps the heat down in the cabin from the gearbox. My friend had a stripped out Auto VK V8 and that thing generated mega heat.

every aussie bloke should keep a stubbie holder in his car at all times, and just slip it over the gearknob, bit of a know brainer me thinks, and sure beats doing a micheal jackson impersnation
