Am I missing something here?
Maybe all BTCC cars are just really slow???
http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=2398
FN2... So slow? Yet a championship leader & last years winner...
Weird huh...
Maybe as a standard car they're not the greatest...
but spend some money in the right places & they're a bloody good thing against all comers in their class...
More motorsport results from the ugly duckling

Maybe journalists really don't know what they're on about.
Or they think people actually race cars as they are from the showroom.

I have followed BTCC for years Adrian. The DC5 privateers were faster for a very long time. Seat dominated too. You also know BTCC is nothing like the street. The BTCC runs modified custom geometry. No torsion beam rear to be seen anywhere. A V8 Supercar isn't really a taxi, nor are BTCC cars really FN2s. Or do we think the Holden Cruze is the best tin top FWD race car in the world?

wow there is just so much hate for the FN2R
i dont think the FN2R ever claimed or was designed to be the fastest type R (maybe the dodgy car sales guy did but who trusts them?) no one can argue about that! that crown already goes to the FD2RR hands down
maybe my tastes have changed as i've grown, I am started to grow out of "pure performance cars"
After my DC5R, i wanted something more performance oriented.
Went for the good old Evo6, incredible performance, however ride comfort was crap, interior was trash, and all the performance potential i cant use on 50-60kph roads with speed cams ready send you a letter saying how lovely your car looked. purely performance isn't my top priority any more. its jsut not sensible for a street car.
with the FN2R, its a more relaxed drive, comfortable daily yet can have lots fun when you want whether it be on the track or twisties. for me its not so much about hardcore best time track performance. its about a good compromise of fun/comfort/performance/safety. and for me the FN2 is a good compromise hence why i own one now.
i agree with adrian about the tuning capability, there's a video of the Spoon FN2R vs all the tuner FD2R and it clearly performed on similar levels with FD2Rs on the field, will you write off all those FD2R as slow as well?
maybe honda has made a terrible marketing strategy for the Type R branding, but i'd have to say most car buyers do not value only performance/lap time of a car these days.
well maybe my place in enthusiast forums are limited now that there seems to be so much hate towards different tastes in cars even within the own brand.
I'm prob gona get flamed
but i'm just out defending something i love, like you all would if someone talked crap about your beloved DC2R/EP3R/DC5R/S2k etc so think about how you would feel =] (i know we all cop alot of flak from the turbo boys at times)

But that was my point. As a standard car, I've gotta say thay're probably the tubbiest of all Type R's.
But when modified, the tuning potential is there (like it or not) & the end result is that they're not bad at all. I give a lot of credit to the power plant, but the chassis isn't so bad either once sent to "Jenny Craig".
I admit I'm not a huge fan & would likley never buy one, but all jokes aside they can be made into quite effective track cars.

I believe they also run NGTC-spec engines this year which is a Turbo K20A

Wiki says:
NGTC - Next Generation Touring Car
Next Generation Touring Car, also known as NGTC, is a TOCA specification and classification for production based race cars. The specification covers touring car racing. The goal of the NGTC classification is to allow more manufacturers and privateers to race by reducing the cost of a competitive car and to reduce reliance on the increasingly expensive Super 2000 equipment. The specification was created for use in the British Touring Car Championship and will be phased in over three years from the 2011 British Touring Car Championship season[1]. However, NGTC Engines were first used in the 2010 season by Pinkney Motorsport, Pirtek Racing and Special Tuning UK[2].
The introduction of these new technical regulations were designed to fulfil the following criteria:
* Dramatically reduce the design, build and running costs of the cars and engines
* Maintain present levels of performance until 2013, to ensure performance parity with current S2000 cars
* Reduce the potential for significant performance disparities between cars
* ‘Future proof’ the regulations by being able to easily modify the various performance parameters
* Reduce reliance on WTCC/S2000 equipment, due to increasing costs/complexity and concerns as to its future sustainability/directionLast edited by TODA AU; 10-05-11, 11:15 PM.TODA Performance Australia Pty Ltd
