both the KU36 and the RE01R are not semi slick, they are street tyres.
A semi slick is more like the RE55s

yup, i agree with Didz, and I have done my research, and I'm getting a set of RE001 on the weekend. The wear of the KU36 put me off them. I know the RE001 are not going to be grippy like a semi slick, or the KU36 but i don't expect them to be. I've never used a set of semis anyway, so i wouldn't know what it feels like.

Got an awesome price on re001. My expectations of these are to be around what I've used in the past, which i will compare to Toyo T1R, Yokohama AVS Sport and the stock Bridgestone RE050, (other tyres i've used are not worth the mention in comparison to these)

Hmm i might go with RE001 also. There priced @ 215 fitted and balance. KU36 are atm in the size i need are $170 with fittted and balance so it'll be about $190 each fitted and balance.

they have awards for being the best tyre available (re001) so i doubt they are crap tyres (even if the awards came from motor magazine).

I have tried both RE001 and KU36 on track last month:

-Both running on same car same stock rims, both 205/50R15 running 40 hot psi all around

-KU36 is about 0.5 sec faster than RE001 average

-KU36 is alot cheaper (when it's on sale last month)

-My quick review on track http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112791

-I still pick RE001 if my car is a daily...I feel more secure

Did you tested RE001 and Ku36 on the same day? Were the tyres both new?

Its a big call saying its .5sec faster without any justification.

                            RE001s weren't new
                            KU36s were fresh new

                            tested in 2 different days

not saying which one is better...just posting up the stats

For a track/street tyre i would rate the KU36 over the RE001. That being said i havent used the RE001 on track before and i am basing this off the fact that the ku36 is in a category shared by the RE01R and AD07.
