Keep it. Most of its depreciation has already occured.

If you maintain your car meticulously I doubt you will see a marked decrease in reliability as kms rise, and everything that breaks can be fixed.

Maybe you should look into getting another car (Cheap car that you don't really care about) and use the DC2R as a weekend car?

I currently do this as I catch the train to work everyday, and I don't want to leave the teg at the trainstation all day (And the crazy weather we have been having in Brisbane lately, it would more then likely hail in the middle of the day if i did)

      Just a thought.
i agree, buy an old eg/ek hatch, maybe even a vti-r and use it as a daily drive and save your teg for 'special times'. doing 25k a year is gunna knock around the resale value of any car, and the more you payed for it the more your gunna lose

B18 shouldnt cost more than k20 tuned i presume..
Man this isn't directed at you but I think the low km's B18C engines is a load of crap.

I find it very hard to believe that even in Japan there are millions of low km engines floating around.

I think Spoon still provides motors new, and you can order long blocks. When the time comes for me, i'd probably just get one shipped over from the US.

Back when the dollar was great 6 months ago

ITR trannies were $1500 US brand new from dealers in the US
BRand New long blocks were $3500 brand new.

unfortunately people in Aus mark up everything 3000% and we end up paying through the roof.

Your tripping, providing your car has had regular servicing the motor should provide plenty of driving yet.. I'd just send it to toda for a rebuild and some extras, lol if i felt it needed it...

              don't sell it!
i was planning to keep mine for a very long time. dc2r is a classic.
look at ae86s which are 1983-86 models, or 70s skylines and 240zs, all can be maintained to be a daily-driveable classic with a bit of effort, with lots of kms and years on the engine/body. thats what i had envisaged for my car - for it to be like those beutifully maintained 60s and 70s cars you see driving around now, in 20years time. eventually if the engine did poop itself after lots of trackdays and well over the 250,00kms mark i suspect, i would take the opportunity to get a crate engine, b18 if possible (you will find many discontinued 'classic' engines which have been discontinued, like b18c, 4age, rb26, are still available as 'new crate engines' from specialist tuners in japan).
              thats what i'd do..
i dont personally like the idea of having a crap bomb to drive round in every day, and the dc2r for 'weekends only'. i want stuff like airbags and safety in my dily driven car, after all I am the most important aspect of my driving experience!

if you really like your teg then should keep it, its gona happen again if u buy another car,.. ull get to a certain km and have the same thought..

as other have said, if you have looked after it well, serviced it reguarly then itll drive and not skip a beat.

another alternative is to drop a k-series bwahaha

I think i will hold on to it till the perfect replacement comes along... sometime in the long term future... or if i suddenly can afford a CaymanS with LSD or a 997+ GT3...

I will start driving my dads 92 LS Integra to gym during the week which will save almost 10k km/yr.. it has abs and airbag so its not too bad

I was dicussing this sort of thing with Tinkerbell the other night. We here in Oz, say that our engines go on and on. Yet in Japan, 30,000km's on a B18C is high KM's, and most will rebuild them at 50,000 - 70,000kms, as that's when they believe them to become "tired".

Just buy engine components slowly over time, if anything happens to your engine... then rebuild it bigger and better! If you have parts sitting around, you won't even notice the cost of an awesome engine build.

Think we need a separate thread that gets stickied on B18C rebuilding... what parts are advised for what targets, which mob are experienced in each city and what it costs and what results and reliability can be expected.

Actually we need a stickied thread which has sorted links to good info threads cos if we stickied all the good info threads there would be too many stickies.

outstanding idea, has been something ive thought about a few times in the past year...

my dc2r now has 176,000 on the speedo, albeit Honda put a new bc18c7 in it at 90k after they broke it during that service..

but i do have to admit, for those numbers, it is holding up seriously well, outstanding condition.
                            2000 new
2004 exedy cerametallic clutch, and 3kg flywheel
                            2009 clutch master cylinder...

cant complain at all....and i think i have way more k's than most R's.....

i hope i just didnt jinx my pride and joy....

clutch master cylinder... me too. Its the first thing to go so far. Its weeping and will be replaced at the next service.

It seems my power steering fluid is leaking ever so slowly, from somewhere. It has moved from the highest point, to the lowest point since I noticed it started leaking a year and a half ago. I dunno if I should do anything about it.
I hate leaving my car at random mechanics, or at Honda... they will surely thrash the crap out of the car.
