Ordering Tyres/ Wheels from the States ???

Has anyone ordered tyres or wheels or brake discs from the states ?

If so would you be able to write a little procedure on the best method to do so ?

What's involved with customs etc, and best pick-up delivery methods

Customs only looks at it if the item value (excluding shipping) is stated at AUD$1k+. There's a flat $50 fee just to 'look' at the parcel and then 10% charge on the value.

USPS or a courier company can all deliver overseas from the states to your door (eg UPS, DHL etc). Courier companies are more expensive. Sea transport (if you're not in a rush to get it) would be the cheapest option.

My 4x tires (economy air - forgot to ask for sea) cost USD$250 in shipping. Even after then the tyres were cheaper than the equivalent to what I could get locally.

New tyres are fine to be imported. Used tyres will need to be fumugated by customs = more money spent, including their $50 once off fee for looking at the package.

There is no way that anyone can value used items if what he wants to buy is second hand.

The tyres I want are Azeni's in 16" and there new, even including shipping value shouldn't be more than 800 i hope. Ill see if anyone is willing to ship them

It'll quite unlikely that you'll end up in jail because:
a) It's the sender who valued the item, not you
b) If they even bother extradite the sender from overseas over a lousy $500 that was undeclared, they'll still have to prove you wanted it undervalued to prosecute you. That means getting an international subpoena to get that person's computers and then find the email that you asked them to undervalue it at. They're more interested in the thousands (or even tens of thousands of dollars) of customs evasion more likely from Mr R Ipoff who, despite several warnings, is sending another shipment of cargo from a remote place in China that has under declared the value of his toys, that so happen come with paint with too much lead and possibly heroin inside them.
c) If they go through all of this, the most you'll probably have to do is pay a fine not go to jail - (remember lousy $500-1000 underdeclared)
d) The most likely outcome is that you have to pay the customs duty on what they think it's really worth before they release it.
