hmm i think in this sort of situation you shouldn't worrie about weather its DC2R or DC5R there both great Honda cars just make sure what you buy is mechanically sound and hasn't been flogged to death...

lol even though Honda's do seem to take what ever abuse u give them

lol though if doubt buy a Honda S2000

Get the DC5R if you're soft.

I am also shopping for a Type R, but I highly doubt I'd be looking at any DC5R's despite most dc2r's being trashed, if you wait around you will find a gem pops up every now and then.

Mechanically, I find the DC2R to be brilliant.

Not only is the car reasonably easy to work on, but if the car is serviced along with Honda's recommended service schedule (including more frequent minor services if it is driven hard) then I think it will last ages.

Most of the mechanical parts in the car are a higher engineering spec than your average mass-production car.

This has certainly been my experience, where at almost 130,000km the two biggest problems I've had were electrical (immobiliser/key got fried) and stupidity (stuck wheel nut!)

i agree, 125,000km and I have only had to replace a rear tail light globe... that is it. still on original brakes pads and clutch!

Dc5 r all the way i had both!! the dc2r is good light and fast though the dc5r has better top end its a 2ltr has more room and hands down will chop up a dc2r on the roll and off take offf. The dc5r has more potential for power it looks better more torque and tuning options available for it.

                          Negative.
I believe stock for stock, the dc2r actually has a quicker ET than a dc5r.

                          More potential for power, yes...
Looks better... each to their own...

DC5R is Soft compared to DC2R... ESPECIALLY AUDM DC5R... JDM DC5R is a different story...

the age old question... stock for stock for people who enjoy to drive, and feel a connection with the car rather than the shape/colour of the body, or how pretty the dash is, the DC2R will always come up trumps

                                DC2R definately the winner.

Down to basics - pure and raw - driving at its best.

and so what - an extra 0.2L and it can only pull 6 more Kw? An S2000 has the same (2L) engine size and it pulls 30 more Kw

Not to mention power to weight... Let alone Kw/Litre

Thats besides the looks department; as Q said - each to their own.

I think the DC2R looks better as a traditional Type R.

The only upside I may see the DC5R in having is that it is Softer; that is better to live with every day (eg: better low down torque of 2L)

But in keeping in the Heritage of the red 'R' badge, the DC2R holds the crown as a true racer.
