    Which Car?

Hey guys.. A few months ago I put my DC2R on gumtree for sale, as to see how much interest there was in it. Well the first person that came and saw it ended up buying it three days later. Was quite a shock to me that my R was gone after ten long years of ownership. I was however excited to start perusing the market for a replacement vehicle.

I was initially thinking of an Evo 7-8 but after reading up on them over a few days, I came to the conclusion that a car that volatile wasn't for me, they seem to shit themselves when you least expect it, and cost a bomb to repair. The Renault Megane RS250 was on the radar for a while but ended up thinking spending 30k+ on a car right now might not be the best option for me.

So far I have been bitterly disappointed in the vehicles I have come across. Doesn't anyone take pride in their car anymore?

I've been pretty open minded about cars and test driven a bunch of different types/styles, all have which left me hanging for something Japanese again.

So far I have test driven BMW 325Ci M Sport, Audi A4 Quattro S-Line, S14/15, DC5S x2 and maybe some others I can't think off at the moment.

I did buy a 94 GSi Teg that, but the A/C had shit itself and I ended up selling it and making a $1000 on it

Cars I'm now considering in the sub 10k range are DC2 VTiR and BB6 VtiR 5MT.. Around the 20k mark, S2000, 350Z..

Any thoughts, comments would be appreciated

Siurprised you didnt throw back a dc2r or fn2r in there.

I think the e46 coupes are all a good buy excludong the m3 for the sub $20k bracket.

Are you in a position/desire to modify the car? I think that will also have an impact to what car you will buy. I have never been impressed aboit the interior quality of the nissans/s15, but that would be my car of choice. Its timeless body, endless array of aftermarket parts, highly soight after will all ensure it holds its value much better than all tje other cars you mentioned, i think even bettee than the s20000

You talk about what you have considered, but the important question would be "What do you want to get out of your car?"

It looks like you have around $20K to spend (or more), so that could present a number of options - maybe even 2 cars to fulfil all your wants.

For example, if you want a comfy little daily that's also reasonably quick and has a bit of respectability (depends on what you do for work), then you could consider a Mercedes B200 Turbo. They are very easy to use, and adequately quick too. You could get them for between $15-25K.

Then for track work (if that appeals to you) then a simple and nicely prepared, cheapish car for $5-10K which can be built up over time.

Try and get your DC2R back? I think that's the reason I'm so attached to mine, almost every other car I've looked at has been thrashed or done up to habib-spec.

E36 M3s are dropping in price (sadly not E30 M3s). The Ford Focus turbo looks a damn nice bit of kit but hasn't dropped enough for me to consider one as a daily. If you can find that very rare unmolested S15 I'd be all over it in a rash as really it was the only challenger to getting a 2R.

TBH, I'm really looking at cars from the 60s to the 80s with aircon because at least they had character - doesn't help you with your selection list though Tossing up between Detroit metal from the 60s, or Japanese from the 70s-80s.

Try and get your bum in a Ford Fiesta ST. Save all prejudices you may have against it until you drive it.

But in all seriousness + 1 for figuring out what you want out of the car and the drive. That should give you a good idea on what car you will be most happy with when you buy it.. last thing you want to do is want something light and agile and end up with something that handles like a boat.

This man is wise, tell us what you want? Otherwise we'll just keep throwing out random cars that are in your price range. Though I like the idea of an FD or E36 M3.
