I don't think DC2R is on the sevs list so that means you can't comply and register it.

I can tow it down if I get a drive of it

                That is correct.
You'll need to import the car as a Racing Vehicle.

                More info here

EDIT: I'm not sure if you can just import a car without going through one of the channels/scheme listed on the dotars website

Brakes alone for trailer will be anywhere from $500 to over 1k.
Electric brakes with controller are probably better suited.

Beware some trailer brakes require you to get out and flick a switch before you can reverse!

Why don't import from NZ... they have plenty of JDM DC2's there. I assume it is cheaper from there.

A friend of mine had an imported rally wrx he drove to and from events legally, however for closed circuit events that doesn't seem allowed - see snippet below.

Also, DB8 Type R 4 door may well be allowed under SEVS and be road registerable later this year. Iron Chef on ozhonda is looking into it.

Under normal circumstances applicants will be restricted to importing a single vehicle
and acceptable reasons will need to be provided to import another vehicle for rally
                          use.

IN ESSENCE, IF YOU CAN'T SUBSTANTIATE ALL THE ABOVE, YOU CAN NOT IMPORT A CAR FOR RACE/RALLY PURPOSES.

Accordingly, we will only be able to source a car for you if you can provide documentation as above, AND are prepared to give us a substantial deposit before the vehicle leaves Japan.
