Haha.. well the Japanese use three 'types' of alphabets in their language... Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. [無限] is Kanji and are symbols borrowed from the Chinese language. In this case, if these two characters are to be written in Romaji (Romanised), you would get [Mu] and [Gen] as the sounds. When 無限 is converted to Hiragana however, it becomes three symbols (but this can get even more confusing... So let's save that for another day.. Unless you're interested haha).
From the Romanised [Mugen], Japanese phonetics read it differently to what we're used to in Western countries. Most romanised forms of Asian language should be read phonetically... Where in this case, Mu as in 'moo' and Gen as in 'Glen' (minus the L).
