    04 Wrx Sti

Hi all, Just had the pleasure of going in mates 04 STI and let me tell you, this thing farkn flew!!! Im no stranger to quick cars but this thing felt seriously quick. He says its stock and running stock boost at 14psi. Just wondering if anyone here has been in an STI I before and what are their thoughts. Especially the evo owners here.

My mate got lucky last week and got 02-03 STI for free, he got it for FREE, his boss is dentist and my mate is dentist higiyenist/assistent so he got from his boss as a company car (boss just got new audi A6), but it get interesting because car is modded, at the moment it has 320HP at the wheels, mods include motec ECU, front mount intercooler, S/S exhaust, tuned by lenght manifold (no boxer sound), not stock turbo (some duble bearing turbo or something), fully rebuilt gear box, bigger injectors, bosh fuel pump, antileg and lounch control, whiteline swaybars, springs and 18" OZ racing forged wheels, car is sick, it's tuned on 17psi and it goes like crazy, it has wheel spin in second gear, I was never driven in faster car, it should do low 12s passes but my mate needs to get used to car before he takes it down the 1/4. I 'm very impressed by this car, it hits 200km/h so easy that it becomes scary.

Yeah same deal in my mates 04 STI. Im so very impressed at the way this thing pulled!! He offered it to me for $32k cash. Im so tempted...

I have owned a 300rwkw skyline before but this sti seemed to go just as wel if not better. I wonder if driving a stock dc2r has anything to do with it lol..

        Decisons decisions...

          Hello hello,

Ive driven the 03 sti...which is the same....the thing i didnt like about the sti was the well known torque hole below a certain rev range(me dont know when it comes in). But when the turbo kicks in....it goes. The thing about the evo is that i find the power to be very linear(maybe because of the mivec...dont know if its the same with the evo8's and below) much similar to the DC5R.

A bit strange, I have borrowed my mate’s 05 sti for one day and thrashed it many other times, it’s fast but nothing mind blowing, compared to my ek with b18cr using my butt dyno, I don’t think it’s much faster if they are not even.

Depends on ur butt dyno i guess.
Cause at times i think my stock DC5R is faster then the evo.
Maybe because its alot noiser/bumpier and the gear change is alot faster(dats the thing i miss most!!!)

I think a lot of people need their butt dynos recalibrated.

My friend has an MY06 STi, stock... quite an impressive beast. Mid range torque is brilliant... I've had the opportunity to drive it on the Putty Road, and was quite impressed, although I never really achieved the same "connection" with the car that I do with the DC2R.

Yes, it was fast. But overall enjoyment? Good, but I think i'd need to be going much much faster than is legal to fully enjoy this car. At quick (but not ridiculous) speeds, the car isn't terribly involving. Point the wheels where you want to go, floor it, and BOOM...

Ok stuff my butt dyno and let’s get some facts then. An STI usually gets mid to high 13s with a hardcore launch, with a normal launch they do around flat to low 14s. My car has some basic breathing mods also clutch and fly, I haven’t run it down the quarter yet, but with semi stripped out and around 117kw atw, low to flat 14 is achievable. So I don’t think my butt dyno is way off.
