Call a mechanic that others have recommended to you and get the owner to put it in for a check up. With money wise you could possibly do Paypal or a postal money order (like in the old days) and once they check it, they send you a report though email. Sounds easy ?

With looking for a DC5R/S, main thing to check is engine mounts, suspension and especially the engine oil level and colour. Generally oil tends to thin down when it heats up hot (in vtec) and you can tell if its been flogged if the oil is firstly black and secondly it's low. You also generally have the normal structural body check for damages and interior condition. And also what has been said above, full service history, check revs for previous ownership history and if its been in accidents, and blah blah.

When I got my DC5R, I was a noob but did get some help. But when I bought the car, no more than 2 weeks later, I got loud knocking noises from the suspension, I found out that the pillow ball mount bushing has been warped and has been hitting on metal to metal on both sides. That had been firstly caused by rough driving and also the aftermarket springs caused more damage to it somehow. I also got a RACQ mechanic checking the car over for mechanical issues or whatnot, I honestly will not trust another RACQ mechanic again and never using them IMO. Really when we had the car for the first week, we thought something was loose like a sway bolt or something but I did monitor it, I got louder and louder each week and thats when it caught me. Took wheels off and had a look at the suspension all round. And yeah. It's a waiting game and don't rush, take your time looking for the right car.

Is that Ruben's car? (Blue DC5) If so, you can PM Justin / Didz if you want any extra information besides the swap. He's the previous owner and on the forum.

Yeah it is Rubens I believe. Are there any other major issues or things I need to look out for? Especially with registering the car in Sydney

After owning a dc5 for 3 years and counting.

            Id be checkig for this.

            Full log book swrvice history.
            Split/cracked
            Mounts

If its a type r- 2nd gear crunching . Easy fix though. Just change gb fluid more often

If its type s- 3rd gear popping out. Once again easy fix by replacing fluid.
And final thing for type s is rear taillights. Water in them? Easy fix by replcing new gaskets.

If it has an injen cai or gruppeM as an intake. Good news as thata cheaper for u. Aftermarket mounts. Even better news. Split/cracked mounta- u can bargain down price.

Hmm well he has service history for the old engine from previous owner. But not for the new engine however apparently it's serviced every 1-2 months. Am I just asking for future problems?

Well imo i would say yes since tere is no history on the current motor.

Perhaps look for a clean one. Time is the key. My type s came to me. Wasnt even looking at one really.

very true as said by alex. time is definitely the key for finding a good car. took me 6 months to find my dc2 and before that i was looking for s15 but none came up which were of worthy standard. if he doesnt have logbooks then ask him for receipts (service). like for my dc2 i have no logbooks and i go to top one for servicing, i keep all receipts for whatever i do there (i.e fitting parts or servicing/ whatnot) and for the next buyer ill provide him with all of that to show him how the engine has been taken off etc.

oh and on that note, why did he have an engine swap? just curious.

the old engine threw a dead rod so he replaced it. hmm true that, also i was researching how to get it rego'd in nsw and sounds like a huge hassle if its a modified car, especially with an engine swap... so probably not the best idea to purchase a modified one interstate.

but on that note.... im trying to decide between a dc5s or a dc5r... not planning to make it a track car, but i will hit the track every now and then to try and learn how to drive a car further than street driving. it will be a daily as well though. got any ideas which would be the best?

imo i like the dc5r because of the recaros but all in all both 5r and 5s have their strong points, ask the peeps on this forum who own one.

i just looked at the ad and it looks mighty clean and nice. assuming everything is good i would recommend that you get a full mechanics inspection over in melbourne first. then once you receive the report and nothings wrong, test drive a dc5r with audm engine here and then fly over to test drive that car with a jdm engine and feel the difference if you are satisfied with it then go ahead with it. and i dont really think there will be a big problem transferring regos interstate. so yeah just give it a shot, its no overnight process though

yeah however i have to get a blue slip from rta and apparnetly if the car isnt stock it is harder to get that blue slip.

yeah even if i got dc5s i'd prob change the seats to brides or recaros but yeah it would be nice to not have to spend that extra money
