Type R shift knob on Type S ><!

    Hey guys,

I just got given a Type R shift knob, and put it on. Thing is, the Type S shift boot doesnt fit right as its got that plastic top attached to it.

Where can i get a Type R shift boot from and is it easy to change?

Do i need to use the Type R shift boot?

    thx in adv.

do u mean that plastic cover thing under the gearknob? It holds the shiftboot up, so it wont slide up and down?

if so, theres any easy way to fix. all u need is some (thick) double sided tape.

      remove the gearknob.
pull the shiftboot and plastic cover up the stick as far as u can without stretching it too much.
remember where it is (we'll call it "THE SPOT"), then let it drop back down.
wrap some tape around the gear stick at THE SPOT.
pull the plastic cap/shiftboot up to THE SPOT, covering it with the plastic cover, then let go. Shiftboot should now stay in place and not drop back down.
      Screw on new gearknob

Thats what i've done with my Skunk2 gearknob (see pic). THe tape will get loose after about 6months, so change the tape then.

      Easy!

this is what i use. it look 8/10. nice with the black interior
you basically take that shit plastic off and the install the adapter lock it in to place with the know and the leather slides up and sit on it real tight

Thanks for the fast reply guys,

JDMyard/JDMconcept dont seem to have the DC5 one but the DC2R only ><!

Nice idea Monkey and nice item EL_DC5.

Might have to opt for the Type R boot to get the clean look, but ill think about it.

Also, while we are talking about shift knobs, is it OK to run it without the lock nut? It sits just slightly off straight and sits nice and low without the lock nut.

that what the lock nut is for, you tighten it on the knob real tight when the knob is straight.
The adapter replaces the nut as well

IMO there would be to much hassle with changing the boot trim, better to get a console. but then you loose the funky L337 slide tray.

I agree. It looks much nicer with the type-r shift boot. Thanks to another member on this forum, we were both able to find the center part of the type-r console and remove the shift boot.

This is what mine looks like.....

Yeah definatly the Type R boot gives it a much cleaner look. Was it easy to change the shift boot?

EL_DC5: without running the lock nut, it sits slightly lower and feed a bit better imo, just gotta live with it sitting a little off straight ><!

                              DAMN IT guys,

just called my mate from Honda, the DC5R shift boot does not sell separate ><! Comes with the console/cup holder. Well thats in AU anyway ><! JDMconcept is willing to order it if i can find part number but no idea how im going to find that out.

Might have to go with EL_DC5's idea.

EL_DC5: how does that item work? tDo you have to break off the plastic left on the shift boot?
