Nice work goldcoaster, when we lowered the front of our dc5 we needed to run only -1.5 degs of negative camber but we needed to run it on a softer spring rate to achieve good traction in the corners powering out.

sounds like you have a better setup than our car though! Great stuff

My setup is far from perfect but hopefully the new tyres will fix the wheelspin on corner exit. Evan aka Evatec is running 255/40/17 A048's to fix the problem and it works very well, obviously cause that is a hell of a lot of tyre his car is maiking around 145kw i would think (hasn't had it dyno'd).

Also have a look at how high the front of the car sits and it also sits a little bit higher than the rear. Also the rear of the car should be setup so that the control arm is still sloping down a little so that under cornering it is flat as this is the widest possible track width for the rear of the car, if you go to low the track width becomes much less... Some food for thought

great info bud, but we experienced acceleration "lift off" on the front straights with a slightly higher front to rear setup, braking was much more stable, but we lost alot of traction on the power out. We did solve that by lowering the tyre pressures and stiffening the rear abit to make it work, but this chewed our rear tyres pretty quick in comparison to the wheels that work.

I guess the thing to remember in all this is how the driver feels with each setup no 2 drivers are the same, and no 2 cars are the same. I've found that most of our problem is the amount of torque we produce in the mid range when accelerating out, the AK3 cams we run produce maximum torque at 3,500 and maintains it for most of the way til 7,000 where it starts to drop.

Its great to get some good info that we can share, cos I've found that there are so few well setup dc5's.

Very nice DC5R GoldCoast. Just a few questions for you...
What size A048's are you running and what is your wheels specs for width and offset? What kind of pads are you running on your Alcon setup? And finally, what suspension are you using? Spring rates?

I shaved off 2.6 seconds at Sandown just by adjusting the suspension, tyre pressure and wheel alignment.

DC5 can be hard to setup with aftermarket suspension but if you spend time to learn, feel, adjust and use trial and error you can get it to perform well. Im constantly changing settings and trialing them to see what affect they have on lap times and stability while of the track.

Does anyone spend alot of time doing this on there track days too???

Wheels are Enkei RP03 17x8"
Tyres are 225/45/17
Pads are DS2500 and i dont really rate them, thinking of changing but its 600$ for a set of Endless pads for them
Running zeal Function V6 coils with swift springs not sure on the spring rates.

The main issue with traction is due to the width/type of tyres, -6deg of camber would give you no traction at all exiting corners because there would be hardly any tyre on the road. I run -3deg on passenger side and -2deg on drivers side (cause its nearly all right hand turns) and Centrax and Evan aka Evatec run similar camber i believe. With fwd i think there is a very fine line when it comes to negative camber with regards to grip/turn in and traction out of the corner. with a rwd or awd car it is fine to run a lot more camber, my mate runs -5deg on his s15 but he doesn't need to use his front wheels to put his power to the ground.

I simply adjusted the amount of negative camber on the front until there was even wear across the face the tyres. With a fairly lowered car (DC5R), It's hard to get more than -2 degrees negative camber without modifying the steering rods.

As QR is mainly a clockwise track, I run less camber on the right front than the left. This is purely to achieve more grip and less wheelspin accelerating out of corners. Previously, I was chewing out the inside half of my right front tyres from wheelspin. With less camber, the tyre sits up straighter and grips better under acceleration. I then fitted big 255/40x17 Yokohama A048 on the front and that fixed alot of wheelspin problems. I run 235/45x15 A048 on the rear. 255s don't fit under the rear guard real well.
