    SpoonS' Type S "Build Thread/Diary"

Ok, i'll start by introducing myself. My name's Eddie, and i currently live in Ryde. Culinary student of Le Cordon Bleu, and i'm originally from Malaysia.

This car was bought new in 2006 when i used to live in Perth. The only things i changed were the things every noob starts off with; the intake (HKS SRI), suspension (Tein SS), and the exhaust (HKS). Perth being the was it is, i didn't get into the track/aftermarket scene and the car was left the was it was for 3 years.

All the bumps, scratches and dents that some of you may have seen on my car, are the result of leaving the car with my gf (at the time) my car when i went back for holidays. Fixing it costs too much, so i decided to leave it as is and use the money for mods. Never been quoted for less then $7k to fix it. With that kind of money back home, I can fix the dents, respray it, and airbrush a life size dragon on my car, so not worth it.

Fast forward 3 years, i hated Perth, moved to Sydney in 2009 and started modding the car.

I needed to look for a place to buy stuff for my car, and whilst driving around West Ryde, low and behold, i see 'Spoon' flags! It ended up being Proconcept, and i ended up living 5 mins walking distance from them

Talking to Joshua there, he convinced me to go handling before power, and we started discussing what to get.

So, what i got first was Spoon struts and calipers. Then while looking around on some forum, i found someone selling a gruppeM intake for cheap, so i picked that up too, and some rims for good measure.

So this is how it looked:-

Couple of months down the road, I attended my first track day at Oran Park (South course).
Driving around there was fun for the first time getting a noobish best time of 55.98 secs. Coming back from my first track experience taught me a lot about the car. The stock seats suck ass! I was sliding around til no end and needed to get new seats, so presto, in goes the Bride seats, sabelt harness, and sparco steering (harness and steering, impulse buy) from Shift Performance.

I went home for the Christmas break, then to Japan for 2 weeks, got lucky enough to attend the Tokyo Auto Salon, got some inspiration, headed back to Sydney, and went back to Proconcept to get more stuff…

JDM type R flywheel, Spoon 1.5 way LSD, Spoon clutch cover, Spoon non-asbestos clutch disc ,Spoon clutch release bearing, Spoon front ball joint lower arm bushings , Spoon 4-2 & 2-1 exhaust manifold, JDM front & rear swaybars.

With new mods in, I headed for the CC trackday at Marulan, to learn how to drive.

Driving with the new handling modifications made the car feel completely different, and I was enjoying every second of it! I couldn’t get enough, and started signing up for a more track days.

Next track day: Shift Performance @ Wakefield Park.

Feeling more confidant in my driving, I decided to try on some semi slicks, so I got a hold of some Yoko A050’s 215/45/17 for my stock rims.

Wow, what a big difference the semi slicks made. They gave me tons of feedback on my driving, and as the day wore on, I slowly got faster and faster, and managed to meet my goal of breaking 1:15’s with a 1:14.08.

With the “Track Bug” settling in, I signed up for the CC trackday at Wakie.
Arriving there, I found out that Joshua and the Proconcept drivers where in attendance, and Joshua quickly ushered them into my car to assess and educate me in the fine art of driving.

By the end of the day, I managed to beat my PB by almost 3 seconds with a 1:11.587

2 months later I entered the Supersprints and managed to get a PB of 1:10.6803

Having worn my tyres a bit, I decided to get proper track rims and purchased a set of Rays G07WT with RE55’s 235/45/17.

With wider tyres I having problems with oversteering throughout the day, but finally managed to get a feel for it, and dropped my PB again to 1:10.63 (.05 secs faster :P)

Taking a short brake from track, I decided to further improve my car :P

                  Eddie,
If you have spoon headers you must have taken the cat converter out ...? Any issues with that ? Noise ? Smell ?

                  Good looking ride !
